I second that. I have extensive experience (I own a Web-based PC shop for 2.5 years) with IBM, Western Digital, and Seagate (7200 rpm IDE), and Seagate is typically quieter out of the box and remains that way. You can help keep it quiet (seems to be not such an issue with Seagate, though, as it is with IBM and WD) by blowing a slow (quiet) fan across the hard drive to keep the temperature down, although it sounds like this is not an option for the use you have in mind.
