I was able to reproduce. Your issue comes from "dpkg-buildpackage -A" that run the tests before building the package. If I comment debian/rules override_dh_auto_test rule "dpkg-buildpackage -A" is working. I don't find an additional option to "-A" to turn off the tests. Fabien
