Erm, even on single-user machines ("only me uses this PC") you should work as 
your
user, not with root rights.

Alone because of safety and security.
Do NOT work as root for "normal", especially not for security-sensitive (net, 
unless
it can't be avoided, browsers, stuff handling input like videos, documents, 
.... Ever.
*If* something bad happens, it just happens to your account, not the whole 
system
(like malware..).

There is a reason there's a root account and a "normal" account, same as there 
is
"Administrator" and normal users on Windows (though most people don't use it 
which
IMHO is a big contributor in the malware problem Windows has.)
