FYI a friend had random A4 shutdowns. I put a vacuum gauge on the fuel system
and it would pull a vacuum before quiting . We found leaves and a rag in the
fuel tank. A new diesel would have quit just as often ;)

That all depends on how they get plumbed in. The way the A4 works the heater is
in the heat exchanger loop after the thermostat, so it is not providing “extra”
cooling. The A4 does not have a separate heater loop like many diesel engines
(and car engines for that matter).

NMEA units or combo speed depth and temp units aside, a basic 200 KHz
transducer is pretty good for a wide variety of depth finders. My transducer
dates back to the 1970s and I think I am on about the 5th depthfinder since
then. It still works fine.

CO2 and halon are very nice ways to put out a fire without destroying the

My 200 KHz transducer dates back to about 1980 or so and the depth finder
display is on its 4th or 5th version by now. Most depth finders are 200 KHz
and work with most transducers. I have a spare 200 KHz transducer sitting
around if you end up needing one.

External strainers are rare on sailboats because of drag.
I have no strainer inside or out. I rarely have issues, but one a FISH made it
all the way to the water pump and got stuck there.

cannot. Here on the Chesapeake running under just a tricolor is a very good way
to get run over by a powerboat.

Not kidding at all. You won't see it unless you fly some stuff from what
used to be Warsaw Pact nations.
I have a maglight in my flight bag with an orange filter I use for night
time map reading. Too many issues with color rendition using just the red
light.
