On my Barient winches, the part that holds the pawls in place is made of
bronze. When it failed, I found a welder to build up the material, and a
machine shop that did some machining to finish it. Total cost < $50
It's been more than 15 years ago, and it's just fine.

My pedestal bolts are SS without a problem. Aluminum bolts are easily corroded
in the salt environment, and are as strong as SS.
Use SS, but be sure to properly isolate it with Tef-Gel, Silicone, or other
SS/Al isolation materials.

I had a similar problem, but discovered the the battery (~ about 5 yrs old) was
getting weak, and always started on the 2nd or 3rd try. How old is your
starting battery?
My mechanic suggested that this was typical of an aging battery.

I would suspect the cams. You can easily inspect them for wear. I've had to
replace the cams several times. When you buy the cam, the spring is included
since it's part of the assembly.
You might also inspect the bottom plate, but it seems to wear less, and it not
as critical.

When I needed a panel for my C&C 41 I went to a local sign maker. They matched
the material and engraved the lettering I needed.
They were familiar with making that style panel, and had a CNC machine that did
it all. I don’t recall the cost but it didn’t seem to be excessive.

are there any clever ways to protect the transom
1 hull # 100 “Red Baron” from 1973 through 1985 and raced
and cruised her a lot on the Chesapeake Bay.
In 1986 I replaced her with a C&C 41 CB hull #93, “Der Baron”, and raced and
cruised her a lot on the Bay too.
By 2016 following some serious surgery. I gave up racing and but still do some
pre-bend.
We did it in 1986,some I'm not sure what else we may have done. Since then,
we mostly use the hydraulic backstay , the baby stay, or the runners to
adjust the mast bend and the sail shape.
