Tony I also have a C&C 41 with a Cinkel mast. I have replaced the sheaves several times, and am currently using synthetic halyards with HDPE (delrin like polymer) sheaves. I had them made in a local machine shop. They are simple to machine, and most any shop can do it. After turning the sheave, they simply press in a "1/2 in. bronze oilite" bearing. I gave them an old sheave to use as a model, and asked them to shape the groove for rope instead of wire.
You get to the axles by removing the top plate, the rests on top of the mast. there are 1 or 2 screws that keep it captive. Once you remove the screws, you can simply lift off the top plate and look inside the mast, where you will see the front and read axles. They fit into machined slots that are built into the top of the mast. Simply lift the axles and sheaves up and out to remove them. It's easy to do with the mast unstepped, but I have done it from a bosuns chair. Be careful not to drop anything, down the mast or on the deck. I've not had any further problems, since I replaced the wire halyards and the Aluminum sheaves. I was unable to find stock direct replacement sheaves. Hope this helps Don Wagner C&C 41 Cb Der Baron ----- Original Message ----- From: Tony Wroblewski To: cnc-list@cnc-list.com Sent: Saturday, September 29, 2012 8:17 AM Subject: Stus-List Main Masthead sheave I have a C&C 41 with a Cincel mast and need to replace the main halyard sheave. Has anyone done this that can offer advice or know where a drawing or info can be obtained on how the shevae pin is accessed. There doesn't seem to be an access plate on the sides of the mast as on many others. I hope to do this with the mast up if possible.
