I agree you want it straight to the battery and also maybe parallel to the
switch…but straight to the battery will turn it on when the float
I just did the test on my boat. With the battery switch off, I toggled the
3-way bilge pump switch from AUTO to ON. I wanted to check if the pump was
hard wired to the 12 V system. The pump came on, so I know that if I leave
it to AUTO when everything's off, it will still pump the bilge. I could

You know, I am just thinking that maybe the pump is wired directly to the
battery but I have never left the toggle in the ON position when I nleft the
boat. I will have to try that , fill the bilge with some water, then turn off
the power, but leave the toggle in the on position.
