Dan,

When I install/wire bilge pumps with float switch, I use a Rule #43 or Blue Sea 
8263 rocker switch with built in fuse.  I wire the power to the switch to the 
back of the main battery switch (Perko) to the post for either the #1 or #2 
battery.  Functionally, it's wired to the battery but isn't in the battery box.

The only wiring in the battery boxes should be the + and - battery cables.
