I just did the test on my boat. With the battery switch off, I toggled the
3-way bilge pump switch from AUTO to ON. I wanted to check if the pump was
hard wired to the 12 V system. The pump came on, so I know that if I leave
it to AUTO when everything's off, it will still pump the bilge. I could
also have tested by leaving it at AUTO and reaching into the bilge and
lifting the float switch to see if that activated the pump. If it didn't
come on when I lifted the float switch, I'd know that it either was not
hard wired in or the float switch wasn't working.
