Edd, If the pattern is a square weave of approx 1/4" threads, then it's the roving showing through the gel coat and skin out (matte) coat due to post-cure shrinkage. It's cosmetic. Too bad we couldn't look at it at Mystic. Could have told you for sure. What many don't know is our plastic bo

As the gel coat wears away, you can start to see the fiberglass fibers. Matte would have a random pattern. Since it's a grid, it sounds like roving, which is the glass layer that is usually laid up on top of the layer of matte (for strength). Did your boat ever have any fiberglass repair done to
