I find that SA detects a lot of mail using SA rules that probably
contain attachments or inline images that are virus laden, but it's
cheaper on system resources to reject at SMTP time than ru

I assumed it was some sort of infrastructure problem and as it wasn't
affecting getting new signature files I didn't worry too much.

you use them, an easy way of doing that is using meld to see the diffs
between the files you have and the .rpmnew files created by the rpm
build process.
Doesn't take long to do, each new clamav update takes me about 10
minutes to have the new daemons installed and r
natures and identifies them. It is the MTA at the ISP that is then
programmed to take appropriate action based on this identification.

version is no use because its dependencies are the previous version's
binaries and it will then be removed and must be downloaded in any case.

that after 0.93.2 tried to update a manually installed daily.cvd using
cdiffs it seems that clamd crashed when reading in the new file.
I had some problems with the installation of my self-built 0.93.2 rpms,
so maybe that was why?

I've just downloaded and built 0.93.2 on my RH9 (yes I know) box, but
ended up having to manually adjust the databases as the automatic update
stuff failed.
I had a daily.cld and a main.cvd in /var/lib/clamav, the version of the
.cld file was 7655 and clamav 0.93.1 was happy with it.

A grep through the source doesn't appear to show anything obvious to me

There is a fix for this if you look further up this list you will find
a post containing alternative code. I think this has now made it i

ver, only small volume though. I had some very high
CPU loads for clamav, and then the maximum number of clamav processes
would be reached and the server essentially become unresponsive. I have
Exim 4.66, if that makes any difference I don't know for sure.
I fixed it by installing clamav 0.90.

packages is that they
don't use freshclam in daemon mode, they use cron to run it. There's a
perfectly good tool provided that does all the necessary things to link
freshclam to clamd, and they don't use it.
I must rewrite the spec file and rebuild the package to my preferences

New clamav updates do require intervention as there may be conf file
format changes to cope with.

I'm seeing the freshclam warning here for about a day now, so something
somewhere appears to be at fault with the DNS record.
Anyone have any news about this? I don't think it's at my end as all
other DNS activity is normal.

ur" is verbal
shorthand for half *past* four whereas the Dutch (and German IIRC) is
more literally "half of four" (which isn't 2 either) meaning half
*before* four. I think the US uses this idiom too, BICBW.
