It's fairly simple to do, you need to install the source rpm for the newest version of Clamav, then create a new directory for the source of 0.97 and copy any patches in the source rpm into this directory. Modify the version in the spec file, and then do an rpmbuild -bb clamav.spec which will build the new versions. You may then need to edit the .conf files for clamd and freshclam if you use them, an easy way of doing that is using meld to see the diffs between the files you have and the .rpmnew files created by the rpm build process.
