Bacula version 1.38.9 has two new "features" in this area. One is that the
Director prohibits backslashes in filenames, unless you enclose them in
double quotes. This should avoid a good number of such cases,

cdr's they have not shown exactly what is needed in the bacula-sd.conf
files. Now it seems that in bacula-1.38.9 there is the option for DVD
writing, which is not what I wish to do. I do not have a dvd writer and

Running bacula 1.38.9 on freebsd. I'm trying to get data spooling to
work for my tape jobs, those files i offload off of disk(s) on to tape. I've
got the below configuration, but as i understand it data spooling is suppose
to increase backup speed by writing continuously to tape so it

You'd almost need an LVM snap anyway, wouldn't you, for consistency's
sake? Seems to me Maildir is particularly vulnerable to inconsistency if
backed up while the server is running.

We're using cyrus as our mail server, so we've got about 162GB of data
stored in 4.4 million files, or an average of 37K per message. Most
other products I've tried (both commercial and open source) have not
been too happy

Actually it hasn't even started to actual _recover_ process yet. It's
busy building a tree (approx 1.3GB of RAM will be used for that) of what

I made the following Perl script to do that (of the last 200 jobs) and dump it
to files.
You can use the -f switch and feed it a jobname if you like.
