llowing to /etc/modules.conf:
Thank you everybody who helped on this problem - I have finally managed to get
sound! There were a couple of faults in my setup, although the asound.state
file was the trickiest problem since it has so many variables.

I have a very bizarre ALSA problem: all the modules load correctly,
including snd-pcm-oss, but I can only play MIDI files. Anything else
(e.g. "mpg123 x.mp3" or "cat /dev/urandom > /dev/audio") produces
neither sound nor error messages.
I'm running ALSA 0.9, as distributed in Debian Testing (Woo
possible? I can't seem to find any examples of anything similar to this in
the help.
Thanks
David

I'm using alsa with audigy, and real player and other oss programs won't
work.

[root@localhost lunarbard]# cat la.wav > /dev/dsp
cat: write error: Invalid argument
[root@localhost lunarbard]#
oss modules do not load unless i do it manually
despite this in modules.conf
