Robert - You're having trouble with this because the premise is invalid: Nodes are not associated with management classes. It is file system objects which are associated with management classes, via default rules and explicit choices made in the Include-Exclude list and certain options such as DIRM

Nodes are connected to policy domains. FILES are associated (bound) to management classes, not nodes. A node may have files bound to an unlimited number of management classes. You can find out which management class a file is bound to by a SELECT on the BACKUPS table, but that can take a VERY

Perhaps you swapped the two paths? I have had similar when by mistake creating the path to the wrong /dev/rmt device. Also, are you sure you should use st devices and not mt devices? The IBM drivers install mt devices, and you will have to unload the st and sgen kernel modules before add_drv of mt
