I don't know about mksysb, but you can certainly make bootable TSM for Sysback
backups to TSM and use them for AIX bare metal restores via NIM.

You can't stack mksysb's on a tape, but you can stack Sysbacks.
The first tape file on a bootable tape is in 512 byte blocks and is the
actual boot program. This is basically the kernel and a backup file

Anyone know if its possible to concatonate onto the back of a mksysb the
data of a backup ?? Is tsm aware that this is a mksysb and will jump to the
end of the mksysb data and add onto it?? This would save me tapes and the
fact that LTO can handle so much data it would be helpful

Having a mksysb backup in TSM is pretty useless unless you are in a NIM
environment. The mksysb made directly to tape has 4 sections, the one made
to a file only has one section. In theory you can construct a bootable
tape from that section, but I've never been able to get it to work

You can't.
This sort of functionality (i.e. mksysb across a network) is available
using IBM's sysback product.
You can use this to backup to another machine's disk or tape and also to
restore the rootvg across the network.
