We are currently using TSM 3.7 on HP-UX 11.0 to backup a large disk array
(900 Gig). This array is connected to two 2000 series HP servers. One
server runs TSM and the other acts as a file server for the disk array. MC
service guard is also being used for fail over.

A few suggestions... The steps to run in a cluster are
quite "touchy". If you miss a step or a step does not
complete, or is done out of order, things may not work.
A few things to check:
1.) Make sure you are using CLUSTERNODE YES in the options file
2.) Make sure you are running the same

Backups run fine with TDP 2.2, but if either node fails over to the other
node, the "failed-from" TSM schedule service fails to start on the new box.

Compressing more than once generally doesn't gain anything in
terms of space reduction, in fact there are certain instances in
which additional compression passes result in *larger* files.
Since you are compressing at the client side, and you are
averaging about 35GB on a 30GB native tape,

We used to, and it crashed every three days because those "ghost"
HTTP admin sessions were always hanging around. We stopped
Intermapper polling, and all our crashes went away!!!

is a basic requirement (well some may not use it) to free up unused space on tapes and
reduce your tape inventory.

when TSM can find the tape it needs very quickly when you run the actual
restore command. What is really needed is "preview" option like on the
restore volume command. Just my opinion.

Don't try 3.7.4.5. Instead of hanging or immortal admin sessions, I got
segmentation faults and crashed servers. After eight in one day, I had to
lock out all administrative users. The advice from support was live with
3.7.4 until you can upgrade to V4.

last days we had (and have) some problems with clients on Novell.
Every night one or two (of about 20) novell-server hang after starting a
scheduled backup-operation.
