[Bug 1890006] Re: Hash mismatch on "apt update"

2020-09-01 Thread Bálint
I've spent a day trying to figure out why my VMs were not working until
I found this report.

TLDR: Windows Sandbox in itself does not break the virtualization for
Virtualbox, what does is the Virtual Machine Platform (on which I guess
Windows Sandbox depends on).

I'll try to gather everything I experienced so someone smarter can make
use of it:

So I upgraded to WSL2 which requires Virtual Machine Platform to be
enabled. Couple of days later I tried opening an existing, already
configured and previously working VM with Ubuntu Server 20.04, it got
stuck at trying to perform some RAID6 xor check (excuse my
incompetence). Shut down the VM, restore to a stable snapshot, now it
got stuck at "Loading essential drivers...". Shut down, restore
snapshot, reset voltages in Throttlestop (undervolt), reboot. Now the VM
starts for some reason, super slow though, and I'm getting Hash Sum
mismatch on apt update/upgrade. Tried a desktop Ubuntu VM, starts super
slow, same mismatch error. WSL and my Linux server works fine on the
same network, so that's not the issue. Finally I found this thread, and
indeed, Virtualbox was running in native API execution engine, disabled
Virtual Machine Platform in Windows, reboot, voila, works!

I guess don't upgrade to WSL2 if you intend to use Virtualbox (WSL1 does
not need Virtual Machine Platform).

[Bug 316125] Re: [Jaunty] HDA-Intel - no sound

2009-04-25 Thread Bálint Aradi
Hi,

I had no sound at all with my Intel HDA (ICH9) chip. However, after
following the suggestion

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/362444

(setting the analog loopback devices to MUTED (e.g. in alsamixer by
selecting the two Analog L channels and hitting M for each) I have sound
again. (Mic not tested yet, though.)

[Bug 316125] Re: [Jaunty] HDA-Intel - no sound

2009-04-25 Thread Bálint Aradi
Hi,

some update. The sound I got above was rather low. However, after
executing alsactl init (and then turning up the master channel again) it
became normal (as it was under Intrepid). The microphone seems also to
work (tested with Skype), provided capture is set for the Capture
channel, and capture level is high enough.

The muting via the Mute button of my laptop does not work though, unless
I remap it in KDE from Mute to the Mute Master.

[Bug 368865] [NEW] ssh-add with ksshaskpass hangs

2009-04-28 Thread Bálint Aradi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ksshaskpass

On my laptop (x86_64) with Kubuntu 9.04 if ksshaskpass is invoked via
ssh-add, after entering the passphrase, ksshaskpass seems to hang for
ca. 30s before either adding the identity or reporting bad passphrase.
If x11-ssh-askpass is invoked instead of ksshaskpass, the response is
immediate.

I use following packages versions:
openssh-client: 1:5.1p1-5ubuntu1
ssh-askpass: 1:1.2.4.1-7
ksshaskpass: 0.4.1-1

I could also reproduce the bug on a different x86_64 machine, with the
same packages.

[Bug 281486] [NEW] [Intrepid] Regression: wrong GDM resolution when using external display on i945

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Ubuntu Intrepid beta upgraded from 8.04.1, all updates as of this post,
running on an Intel GMA-950. Option "NoDRI" because of bug #277709, but
it doesn't make a difference. Stock "empty" xorg.conf apart from that.

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS,
943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)

On Hardy when I had an external display connected through VGA on boot,
both GDM and GNOME resolution was automatically set to the native
resolution of the TFT monitor. On Intrepid it's always 1024x768. After
login the resolution is set correctly.

[Bug 279724] [NEW] Firefox tooltips and context menus offset until after screen rotation/derotation

2008-10-07 Thread Bálint Magyar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

This is on Intrepid beta upgraded from 8.04.1 running Metacity on an
Intel GMA-950.

0) Set screen rotation to Normal via xrandr.
1) Open Firefox.
2) Rotate the screen Left or Right.
3) Rotate the screen back to Normal.

Right click on a page -> context menu appears offset by several hundred pixels
away from mouse cursor.
Hovering any object in the window that pops up a tooltip (including buttons on
window decoration) shows that tooltips are offset as well.

All other windows opened before the rotation display context
menus/tooltips at the correct positions. Restarting Firefox fixes the
problem.

Cannot not try with Compiz because of bug #277709.

Symptoms become very apparent when scrolling in Firefox on a rotated

[Bug 209520] Re: SMB error: Unable to mount location when server configured with security=share

2008-06-23 Thread Bálint Magyar
Updated the gvfs and samba related packages from hardy-proposed. Trying
to reach a Windows Server 2003 share in an Active Directory domain
environment through Nautilus' "Connect to Server..." resulted in the
following message box after supplying the login info:

"Sorry, couldn't display all the contents of "smb": The specified
location is not mounted"

Upon reloading the same Nautilus window, it produced the original
"Unable to mount" message. Both before and after the update, connecting
to a share on the server with smbclient works as intended (using the -U
and -W arguments to specify login info).

I have talked about this to Sebastien Bacher earlier this month, but I
guess it should be made public that I have talked to my supervisor at
work about this and we can provide remote access to a Hardy box in a
Windows Server 2003 domain environment for testing purposes. I would
like to ask the developers to contact me if this will be needed and we
will discuss the details in private.

Steve, I'm quite confused about which bug my experiences belong under,
as my original bug #215570 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug
twice. To be sure, Windows 2003 shares use NTLMv2 auth. Quite sure my
problems are unrelated to #207072 as browsing seems to work fine, but
not mounting or actually displaying contents of shares.

[Bug 215570] Re: Cannot browse/mount Windows Server 2003 shares

2008-06-25 Thread Bálint Magyar
Crossposting my relevant info from bug #209520:

"Updated the gvfs and samba related packages from hardy-proposed [on

Active Directory domain environment through Nautilus' "Connect to

As of today, browsing Windows 2003 shares works (i.e. it lists the
available shares on the server correctly), actually listing the contents
of the shares and mounting produces the above symptoms.

[Bug 243167] [NEW] kdenlive crashes with SIGSEGV upon starting

2008-06-26 Thread Bálint Magyar
Public bug reported:

I installed kdenlive from the Hardy repositories and launched it. It
presented me with a startup dialog. I set up the project type (HDV

controls and then promptly disappeared, providing me a notification
about a crash. Since then, starting kdenlive will do the same except I

[Bug 243601] [NEW] Single "XML not well-formed" error in Liferea Combined view eventually results in marking all items as read

2008-06-27 Thread Bálint Magyar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: liferea

I was checking my feeds after a long day at work, and I had around 50
unread items. I have an "Unread" search folder set up with Combined
view, so I clicked on it to scroll through items. It loaded all feed
items up to the point it reached some faulty one, at which point the
whole long page of all unread posts turned into a single "XML not well-
formed" error page. I tried working around it by viewing the new items
one-by-one in each feed, so I clicked on one, which marked all unread
posts read, leaving me having to sort through all the feeds manually by
date.

[Bug 58179] Re: Doesn't autohide on context menu close

2008-08-15 Thread Bálint Magyar
Not sure if the below symptoms are due to this bug or not:

0) Set panel to autohide.
1) Install package sshmenu-gnome.
2) Add it to a panel.
3) Push mouse cursor to screen edge to reveal panel so that it unhides.
4) Click newly created SSH button on the panel, select a menu option. Panel
doesn't autohide.

Hovering it with the mouse and leaving its area again triggers autohide.

[Bug 238603] [NEW] Installing kdebase over Ubuntu install mixes up KDE default icon theme with GNOME selected icon theme

2008-06-09 Thread Bálint Magyar
Public bug reported:

I have installed Ubuntu 8.04 cleanly on a fresh HD partition and
installed the Tango icon theme from the repository, then decided to
install kdebase (kcontrol + its dependencies, actually) to make QT apps
fit GNOME's looks with the Klearlooks KDE theme. This resulted in a
couple of launcher icons in the Main Menu switch to their equivalents in
the KDE default icon theme Crystal SVG. The ones I've noticed so far are
Evolution, The GIMP, Opera and Scribus. The latter two have been
installed from third-party sources, but their icons were fine before the
KDE packages were installed.

Another peculiar thing is that there are two entries for Crystal SVG in
System > Preferences > Appearance > Customize... > Icons; might be
related. (Not mentioning that the Delete button is disabled for both of
them, since that's probably intentional as to not remove things that
have been installed through the package manager as part of another
package.)

Let me know if you need any more info. Sorry, I have no idea which
specific package this is related to.

[Bug 306616] Re: [i945] Xorg crashes with SIGABRT after GDM login when DRI is enabled

2008-12-20 Thread Bálint Magyar
Installed fresh packages from the intel-gfx-testing PPA and I cannot
reproduce this crash. However, DRI still doesn't work correctly, glxinfo
reports that the Software Rasterizer is used thus 3D applications still
suffer from poor performance.

Same problem here as Pitabred described above, same log output, same

[Bug 153427] CSS HTML color syntax highlight triggers on id selector

2007-10-16 Thread Bálint Magyar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

With CSS syntax highlighting, if an id selector (#name) starts with
characters that are also hexadecimal digits, said characters are
highlighted with the color for property values.

Example:
#feature { display: block }
#whatever { width: 100px }

"#fea" is highlighted with the same color as "100px," whereas "ture" and
"#whatever" have the default text color.

** Affects: gedit (Ubuntu)

[Bug 140554] Re: X crashes gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting :0

2007-10-18 Thread Bálint Magyar
This happened to me three times today, running Gutsy (installed RC and
all updates since then). I am running GNOME and Compiz-Fusion on an
Intel GMA-950 with the intel driver.

I only had Firefox running in one session of the three, so this might be
unrelated.

However, all three times it happened was when I was switching workspaces
with Ctrl+Alt+arrows (Compiz Desk Wall plug-in). I have added the line
"VideoRam 131072" to my xorg.conf Device section yesterday in hope of
increased performance (like I did in Feisty). I haven't come accross
this problem since the day Gutsy RC was released, so I removed that line
and I will see if that was somehow related.

client-side dynamic content, in for example http://www.engadget.com/ 's
case, there's the rolling news box with big images on the top right. If
I have that on-screen in Opera or Firefox and initiate Expose, the
screen flickers everytime the box animates. Happens with embedded Flash
also, although less prominently than with rapid updates caused by
JavaScript animations.

I'm not sure what triggers the flashes when I'm switching desktops on
the Desktop Wall, but it happens ~75% of the time.

Thank you for your time, Bryce!

[Bug 217189] Re: Rotating screen does not flip X/Y dimensions

2008-04-19 Thread Bálint Magyar
Right now if I rotate the screen for example right, I get a picture on
my notebook's display that is 768 pixels wide (height of the rotated
screen), and 1280 tall (width of the rotated screen). This, because of
the display's native resolution, causes the rotated screen's width to be
cut off at 768 pixels.

On Windows, if I rotated the screen using the Intel driver's feature,
the screen resolution changed to 768x1280 (thus portrait), allowing me
to rotate the notebook physically, and read the screen as if it were a
book.

[Bug 155480] Re: Gutsy: KDEnlive cannot capture from FireWire

2008-04-07 Thread Bálint Fekete
Please upgrade dvgrab to v3.1..
If Hardy will be an LTS release, it has to "Just work", isn't it?
But KDEnlive "Just doesn't work" with dvgrab v3.0.
Maybe v3.0 is more stable, but useless :-/

[Bug 73698] Re: Panel applets on top panel blink in as they redrawn while running full screen app

2008-04-08 Thread Bálint Magyar
This was happening to me in Ubuntu Gutsy, and now in Ubuntu Hardy Beta
(plus updates) as well. Easily reproduced here by for example running
Blender (or any OpenGL application, like games through WINE) in
fullscreen and having a System Monitor panel applet. When the
application is in focus, I can see the System Monitor applet blinking in
whenever its state is refreshed (other applets too, of course, like
Network Manager's etc.).

Video card is Intel GMA-950 (945GM chipset) with the intel driver, tried
with both EXA and XAA, PageFlip and TripleBuffering on and off to no
avail.

[Bug 213882] [NEW] gnome-screensaver-command -p does not unblank screen turned off by Power Management

2008-04-08 Thread Bálint Magyar
Public bug reported:

See summary.

This is just a really minor annoyance, in my case because I use
BlueProximity to lock the screen when I'm not near my notebook (it's
paired with my phone), and when Power Management turns the screen off
after a while, BlueProximity issues a "gnome-screensaver-command -p" and
then an unlock. The unlock happens, but I have to move the mouse or
press a key to unblank the screen again.

[Bug 213856] [NEW] Windows and desktops flicker and flash black with Compiz enabled with the Intel video driver (945GM)

2008-04-08 Thread Bálint Magyar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Ubuntu Hardy Beta + all updates as of the date of posting on a Clevo
notebook with an Intel GMA-950 graphics controller (945GM motherboard
chipset).

I've found that the black flashes and flickers appear in two cases reliably:
1) When initializing the "Expose" plug-in, all virtual desktops flash black in
their entirety.
2) When switching virtual desktops with the "Desktop Wall" plug-in, during the
animation and on the destination desktop, windows and the desktop flash.

Knowing that EXA has been enabled by default for the Intel driver
recently, I've tried AccelMethod XAA, but the flashes are still there.
Also played with combinations of FramebufferCompression, TripleBuffer
and PageFlip to no avail.

[Bug 213856] Re: Windows and desktops flicker and flash black with Compiz enabled with the Intel video driver (945GM)

2008-04-08 Thread Bálint Magyar
A bit of correction that might be important: when switching desktops,
only the FOCUSED window flashes black, and then the desktop, both once.
With Expose activated, desktops and windows flash randomly, BUT not
windows that have been resized with the Shelf plug-in. Odd.

[Bug 213856] Re: Windows and desktops flicker and flash black with Compiz enabled with the Intel video driver (945GM)

2008-04-08 Thread Bálint Magyar
Something else I've discovered. Unticking "Detect refresh rate" and
changing the "Refresh rate" option in compizconfig-settings-manager, I
can reduce the flickers to zero once I reach 23. (default being 60) 24
gave me a single flicker in a LOT of Expose activations, 25 a bit more,
up to 200 where the flickers combine into a huge black tear around the
middle diagonally.

[Bug 216384] Re: Cannot close tab in Tilda

2008-04-26 Thread Bálint Magyar
Thanks, that worked!

Quite a confusing option though, I must say. It being grouped with the
"Run custom command instead of the shell" option, I thought the shell
itself was not considered a command in the context. That and the Leave
Open option resulting in basically a useless tab is not too intuitive.

[Bug 215570] [NEW] Cannot browse/mount Windows Server 2003 shares

2008-04-11 Thread Bálint Magyar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs

Ubuntu Hardy Beta with all updates as of date, upgraded from Gutsy.

I'm trying to reach SMB shares provided by a server running Windows
Server 2003 (Active Directory login), through Nautilus. I get the
"Failed to mount Windows share" error dialog, and an empty listing. It
does not ask for my password, it's not in the keyring. smb://serverroot/
gives me a list of the shares as expected, trying to enter them results
in the error.

Using "File > Connect to Server..." in Nautilus and filling in the login
info results in the same error when pressing "Connect."

gnomevfs-ls and smbclient list the files correctly, gvfs-mount results
in "Error mounting location: Failed to mount Windows share".

Browsing SMB shares provided by Samba on a Gentoo-based server works
fine.
