Hi, I had no sound at all with my Intel HDA (ICH9) chip. However, after following the suggestion
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/362444 (setting the analog loopback devices to MUTED (e.g. in alsamixer by selecting the two Analog L channels and hitting M for each) I have sound again. (Mic not tested yet, though.)
