This happened to me three times today, running Gutsy (installed RC and all updates since then). I am running GNOME and Compiz-Fusion on an Intel GMA-950 with the intel driver.
I only had Firefox running in one session of the three, so this might be unrelated. However, all three times it happened was when I was switching workspaces with Ctrl+Alt+arrows (Compiz Desk Wall plug-in). I have added the line "VideoRam 131072" to my xorg.conf Device section yesterday in hope of increased performance (like I did in Feisty).
