[Bug 293052] Re: Compiz sometimes hangs when closing a window on R500/video-ati

2008-12-09 Thread Alexander Hunziker
I've been using Compiz on R500 on a daily basis now for a few weeks,
always using the most recent radeon driver form Tormod Volden's PPA. So
far, I have not experienced the described crashes anymore with those
more recent drivers.

[Bug 150519] Re: radeon driver can not do xv with AIGLX enabled

2008-11-10 Thread Alexander Hunziker
If one manually switches the acceleration method to EXA, XVideo works

Option "AccelMethod" "EXA"

I'm using a slightly newer driver from Tormod Volden's PPA, but I guess
the one Intrepid ships should work as well. Feedback?

[Bug 288397] Re: The old plugin hangs firefox 3 when loading java applets

/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/lib/i386/libnpjp2.so 100

[Bug 352732] Re: [jaunty] Sound muted after boot

2009-05-13 Thread Alexander Hunziker
I confirm what Jimmy Buck already said: when you shutdown your system in
a forced way (or if it crashes, as it was in my case), the sound is not
muted after a reboot. It looks like something mutes the channels upon
shutdown, and then re-mutes them upon login. That's why the master
channel is unmuted after boot, but gets muted at login.

[Bug 274302] Re: ttf-liberation is without config file

2009-02-26 Thread Alexander Hunziker
When I reported this bug, I misunderstood the way font configuration
works. The configuration file in /etc/fonts/conf.avail is there as it
should be. I guess it should be discussed whether that should be copied
to /etc/fonts/conf.d upon installation, assuming that people who do
install ttf-liberation want it exactly for the purpose of serving as a
Arial & Co. replacement.

Anyway, the bug as reported is invalid.

OK, sorry, I misunderstood the purpose of the applet. I still think

[Bug 293052] [NEW] Compiz sometimes hangs when closing a window on R500/video-ati

2008-11-03 Thread Alexander Hunziker
Public bug reported:

I've been using compiz on an ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 for a few days
now. Using the default driver (video-ati). Sometimes, when trying to
close a window, it just hardlocks and won't accept any input anymore
(can't switch to terminal, can't kill XServer), though the mouse pointer
can still be moved. The only thing that can be done is a cold reboot.

[Bug 250475] [NEW] gnome-display-properties allows turning all screens off

2008-07-21 Thread Alexander Hunziker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

The tool gnome-display-properties allows one to turn all screens off.
That's dangerous, because one (at least average user) has no possibility
to interact with the machine anymore. I think it should at least pop up
a dialogue asking the user whether he really wants to turn all screens
off. The problem is that even cold rebooting doesn't help, because those
settings seem to be written to disk (~/.gnome2/monitors.xml).

[Bug 293052] Re: Compiz sometimes hangs when closing a window on R500/video-ati

2008-12-27 Thread Alexander Hunziker
The bug persists. I cannot be sure it has anything to do with Compiz,
that was my first guess because it always happens when i close a
program. Today though, it happened when I closed a program from the tray
icon while the program was minimized to tray - there was no visible
window being closed.

It's tough to debug, because it only happens once every week or so, but
reproducibly when i close an app. Again, I have no possibility to
control the machine locally. The fan speeds up, so I think the CPU is
working.

Can anybody give me advice how to debug when it happens next time? I
have installed an SSH server now in the hope to login remotely next time
it happens.

2008-12-28 Thread Alexander Hunziker
I have a similar problem with OpenOffice versions 2.4 and 3.0. For me,
it's the font "Calibri" by Microsoft (The default font of newer Office
versions) which is acting up: the letter ö doesnt print. ä,ü,Ö,Ä,Ü all
print. I think the bug is in OpenOffice, because other applications (I
tested gedit and Wine's Notepad) print the letter ö just fine. The font
Purisa by the way works fine for me.

Furthermore, the Codec selection in the current package in Jaunty is

[Bug 355300] Re: Thinkpad Z61m: volume controls control both main and hardware mixer

2009-04-07 Thread Alexander Hunziker
I'm not sure I'm happy with that fix. It effectively makes the GUI
volume control useless, and there's not visual feedback any longer.
There should be *one* master mixer, i don't know whether that should be
the software or the hardware one, but one's enough. It sounds hackish,
but as the hardware mixer can't be disabled, maybe the GUI could reflect
the state of the hardware mixer, without actually changing it?

[Bug 407962] Re: Bluetooth nonfunctional on Ubuntu Karmic

2009-08-09 Thread Alexander Hunziker
I have both more info and more success meanwhile...

Right after booting, if I try to send a file to my mobile phone, that
will fail. If I de- and then reenable bluetooth using the functionality
in the applet, it works.

Sometimes, the applet seems to be confused about whether bluetooth is on
or off and will show: "Bluetooth: unknown" in the menu.

In short, it's probably an issue with the killswitch part of the applet.

This is on a Thinkpad T60 with an internal USB Broadcom Bluetooth
adapter.
