Re: SIS 900 onboard network adapter
i had a freind over here and his notebook has the same nic in it. we noticed thatthe link would drop after he got an ip and was kinda flaky he couldnt get an ip in phoebe with the nic. seems the driver isnt the best i guess. my phoebe box with a realtek 8139 card had no issues getting an ip. so from my limited use with that card i would recomend a new nic. As long as your ISP allows you to run servers, use dyndns.org or something simmilar to give you a static dns server. you need to pay $30 to use each domain name. which they say is forever. they will let you control all the dns they just forward requests to you. Re: linksys and mozilla
Buck, I dont mean to sound rude or unhelpful but have you done any research on anything before you ask? you seem to be asking alot of questions with out researching them first. google.com is always very helpful with the rightly asked query you usually find what you are seeking. proving more information on the exact problem also helps as the problem can be pinpointed with greater ease. Questions on windows are inappropriate as this list is for Red Hat Linux 8.0 questions on samba are fine. I'm glad that your trying out linux, i think that you will learn more by searching for what you need rather than just asking, you will be able to do what you want with your network, you just need to learn how. I wish you all the sucess in the world. What do you mean by popup? does a new window popup showing the list of ips given out? have you tried konqueror or nautalis? Use Control Panel to open Local Security Policy in the Administrative Tools. 2. Navigate to Local Policies / Security Options. 3. Double-click Domain Member:Digitally encrypt or sign secure channel data (always). 4. Press Disabled. 5. Press Apply and OK. Option #3: registry file Save the followig text to requiresignorseal.reg and then right click->Merge REGEDIT4 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netlogon\Parameters] "requiresignorseal"=dword: This file can be found in the docs/Registry directory of the Samba 2.2.2 source distribution as WinXP_SignOrSeal.reg. Re: Video Card recommendation
I would like to know why you must use drivers provided by the manufacter? From my experience i used to have a tnt2 card i used nvidia drivers with and had x problems from time to time. I now use a ati radeon 7000 which performs better. and is more stable with x using the drivers included in x which are based off of ati's specifications. ATI may not release Drivers but they support there hardware in the open source arena in a way nvidia never will. and that is letting people know how there hardware works and allowing the distributions to release a product that will perform properly out of the box. Isn't it better to know how the code will interact with the kernel rather than applying unknown code to the kernel with unknown problems. I have seen in magazines here so called experts saying that ATI should be avoided as they do not support linux. To me it seems that they are supporting linux much more than what nvidia does. Its a known fact that microsoft sees nvidias code for there drivers they know what to expect from that code. Nvidia does not show that curtesy to the open source movement. Without a bios on the scsi card you will be unable to boot from it. I have a scsi card without a bios which i have a hard drive and a tape drive attached i also have 2 ide drives in the system each on there own channel and i use a ide drive for booting. for grub to know your scsi card is there it needs to load the initrd so it can load the modules needed. so maybe get a small ide drive for your boot partition or use a boot disk with the needed scsi modules built in.
