Re: got Apple TV

2012-04-09 Thread Scott Rumery
Hi just tell your husband to mute the TV when he is going through the menus and
then he will not have to deal with hearing Voice Over while he is looking for
something to watch. This is what our kids do hear because they do get
frustrated with hearing Voice Over when they are trying to find something to
watch.

VLC Help Needed

2012-04-16 Thread Scott Rumery
Hello, I have just installed the VLC app on my Mac Mini and I am trying to
listen to an Audible book with it but every time I open the file in VLC I
cannot seem to hear anything. I have checked to make sure that mute is not on,
and I have also checked to make sure that the volume is turned up. Does anyone
have any suggestions as to how I can get this file to play within VLC?

Re: Setting to not automatically add files to iTunes library.

2012-04-29 Thread Scott Rumery
Hi, you could use a different program to listen to your song. If I am not
mistaken, iTunes only adds the file to your library because you are using it
to play that file. So if you were to use something like VLC to play your
files, then it should not be added to your iTunes library. If I am wrong, I am
sure someone else on the list will let me know. I just thought that this
approach might be worth mentioning.

Re: Garage band and ringtones

2012-04-30 Thread Scott Rumery
Hello, you don't necessarily
have to use Garage Band to make ringtones out of your own music. You can very
easily do this with iTunes. I recently did a presentation on this very topic
last Wednesday night for an iPhone Discussion conference that my friend Beverly
Hunter and I have on the Conversation Station every Wednesday and Saturday
night. These conferences oar held at 7:00 P.M. Eastern Time on Wednesday, and
6:00 P.M. Eastern Time on Saturday. If you would like to listen to my
presentation on the Conversation Station just call: 616-883-2999, press pound
to skip the welcome message, then press the number 5 for recordings, and then
enter the recording ID 17379. I give step by step instructions on how to use
iTunes to make your own ringtones.

Re: Garage band and ringtones

2012-04-30 Thread Scott Rumery
No, unfortunately there isn't. I didn't record it myself, it was recorded by
the Coversation Station system, and as far as I know the only way to hear it is
to call the line and go into recordings and enter the recording code of 17379.
This was the first time I did a presentation like this and I had fun doing it,
so I plan on doing some more of them in the future. I know that some people
don't like the idea of calling one of these coversation lines, but if just give
it a try, I think that you will like it.

Drop Box

2012-05-03 Thread Scott Rumery
Hello, I am trying to use Drop Box on the Mac and I am having some trouble with
it. When I launch the Drop Box app, all Voice Over will say is "Drop Box has
no Windows". I can go to my home folder and find the Drop Box folder, but
there is nothing there. I have been able to set up a couple of folders via the
Drop Box website, but doing it this way is a bit cumbersome. Does anybody out
there use Drop Box on the Mac, and if so could they let me know if they are
using the app, or are they using it from the home folder. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

Drop Box Problem Solved

2012-05-03 Thread Scott Rumery
I have solved my Drop Box problem. Steve was correct in saying that you need
to install Drop Box outside of the apps folder. What I did was, locate the DMG
file, I opened it and when presented with the .app file, instead of copying it
to the apps folder, I instead opened it and was presented with an installation
dialogue which did indeed ask me for my log in information. After logging into
my account I now see all my folders that appear when I go to the Drop Box
website. Thank you Steve for mentioning this crucial detail about having to
install it outside of the apps folder.

Learning To Use Fission

2012-05-06 Thread Scott Rumery
Hello, I am trying to learn how to use Fission with Voice Over and I am having
some trouble. For those of you that don't know what Fission is, I will let you
know that Fission is an audio editor for the Mac. It can be used to make
iPhone ringtones, and this is what I am trying to use it for. I know that you
can make your ringtones with iTunes and I have become very good at making my
ringtones this way, but a friend of mine told me a few days ago about Fission
and that it is very easy to use for making ringtones, so I thought that I would
give it a look.

The trouble that I seem to be having is that when I open an audio file
in the program and then try to set the beginning and end points in the file,
the beginning and end points seem to be in synch with each other. By this I
mean that when I move one, the other moves right along with it. I have been
through every setting to see if there is something that I am missing, and I
can't seem to find out what it is that I am doing wrong.

Is there anyone on the list who knows how to use this program, and if
so would they be willing to post some basic instructions for me.

Thank you very much,
Scott

Re: question about iPhone training

2012-06-18 Thread Scott Rumery
Hello Eugene,
If your friend is interested in getting some training or I would rather
call it teaching help with an iPhone or for that matter anything to do with
assistive technology, I would like to offer my services. I am part of a new
firm here in Georgia that offers low cost support and training or teaching for
all of Apple's products. I am also very knowledgeable with Windows screen
readers so I could also help with that as well.

If you or your friend are interested let me know and we can talk about
rates and what services that your friend might be interested in. If you go to:
http://www.fedoraoutlier.com you can learn more about our company and what
services we offer. As I said we are a firm that specializes in Apple
accessibility and I am sure that once you and your friend look at our website
that you will agree that we are the ones to come to for teaching skills such as
you described.

Re: question about iPhone training

2012-06-18 Thread Scott Rumery
I completely agree Les. That is why our firm specializes in One To One
training, and we also offer group training for those clients that would like to
have 3 to 10 people trained at the same time. This group training takes up a
full 8 hour day in a specific location that we and our clients agree on and of
course costs more, but as I said, with this service we can train/ teach a group
of individuals at the same time.

Re: is a paid screenreader for the mac a option?

2012-06-25 Thread Scott Rumery
Hello,
I have not been on the Mac as long as you have, but after using a
Window computer for 20 years or more, I am extremely happy with my Mac. You
are correct when you say the Mac screen reader is more stable than the Windows
screen readers. I agree that this more than likely due to the fact that Voice
Over is part of the Mac OS which helps it to run more dependently. I however
do not agree with your statement that on Windows more basic programs are
accessible. First of all, what do you mean by basic programs? You mentioned
Drop Box. It is true that using Drop Box on the Mac requires a certain level
of expertise, but once you understand how you need to use it on the Mac, it
works just fine. I think you must be referring to the fact that when you
install Drop Box and you launch it all Voice Over will say is "Drop Box has no
windows". This frustrated me to no end until I realize that on the Mac you can
just go to your home folder and arrow down to Drop Box and then access it like
any other folder on your Mac. I put an alias icon right on my desktop and now
all that I have to do is to open that, and then I can work in my Drop Box.
My point with all of this is to illustrate that even though at first
Drop Box may seem inaccessible on the Mac, it really isn't

As for your question about a paid screen reader ever being made
available on the Mac. I seriously doubt that this will ever happen, and I
probably wouldn't use it anyway. I would not for one, want to go and pay
several hundreds of dollars for something that in my opinion would give me a
sub par experience on the Mac, especially when the beauty of owning a Mac is
that once I purchase my Mac, all I have to do after turning it on to have
accessibility is to hit command plus F5.

Just my opinion.

Hidden Functions In F1 Through F12

2012-06-27 Thread Scott Rumery
Hidden Functions in F 1 through F 12

People say that you should not take shortcuts in life, but when using my Mac I
can appreciate a great shortcut that makes my work easier. Your F 1 to F 12
keys are fast and easy ways to change settings on your Mac without allot of
fuss, but what about a shortcut to the shortcut?

Here is something you should keep in your mental arsenal when wanting to change
master settings on your Mac. Adding the Option Key to the Function that you are
trying to toggle opens its respective preference pain and tab within System
Preferences. This proves useful when you need to change sound schemes, update
video displays or a host of other settings easily. Hidden Functions of F 1
Through F 12- Full Article

Audio Highjack Pro

2012-08-16 Thread Scott Rumery
Hello everyone,

I would like to know if anyone on the list is good at using Audio Highjack Pro.
I have recently purchased it with the intention of using to produce a series
of Mac and iPhone how to podcasts. Can I use this program to record my voice as
well as the Voice Over from my computer at the same time, or will I have to
record them separately and then join them together post production? I hope
that I can record both my own voice from my microphone and the system sound at
the same time.

Does anyone know of any good tutorials for this program?

Thank you,
Scott

That is what I thought, but if I set up two component sessions won't I get two
separate files? I guess what I am looking for is a way to record both my
system sound and my own voice all in one file. Will I have to just merge the
two files after I record them?

Garage Band

2012-08-20 Thread Scott Rumery
Does anyone know how to use Garage Band on Mountain Lion to record a podcast?
I have been looking through the manual and it says to choose Podcast when
creating a project but I can't seem to find where I would do this. Any help
will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Garage Band

2012-08-20 Thread Scott Rumery
Hi Mike,

Thanks for the help. Let me explain to you what it is that I am trying to do.

I am using Audio Highjack Pro to record both my voice and my system sound. The
problem with this is that the program is making 2 separate files and I wanted
to use Garage Band to join these files, but when I try and open these files
with GB the Open File button is dimmed. Do you know what I am doing wrong, and
if you have a better idea how to record my voice along with my system sounds, I
would be open to hearing about it.

Re: Garage Band

2012-08-21 Thread Scott Rumery
Hi Mike,

I think that I understand what you are saying, but I must still be doing
something wrong. If you have some time free this evening and you are willing
to help me figure this out, maybe we could hook up on Skype. I would greatly
appreciate the help as I need to learn how to do this for the company that I am
working with. Plus it is something that I have wanted to know how to do for
quite some time, but I just haven't tried to figure out how to do it yet.

If you will send me your Skype information I will send you a contact request
and maybe tonight at about 7 or 8 Eastern we could talk and you can help teach
me how to do this.

Got A New Keyboard

2011-11-16 Thread Scott Rumery
Hello I just got a new keyboard for my Mac and I am having a problem with the F

functions and I want them to do software functions. I can't seem to locate
where to change this setting in Lion. Is there anyone out there that can help

Logitech Solar Keyboard for Mac

2011-11-18 Thread Scott Rumery
Hello, I recently purchased a Logitech Solar keyboard for my Mac and I really
do like this keyboard except for one thing. It seems as though that the F keys
perform hardware actions, and I need them to perform software actions, but I
can't see anywhere on my system where I can make this change. I know that it
is suppose to be in System Preferences under Keyboard within the keyboard tab,
on my Mac there is no place where I can tell my Mac I want the F keys to
perform software functions. My question is; is there anyone else on the list
that has this Logitech Solar keyboard, and if there is were you able to change
the way this keyboard handles the F keys?

I never even thought of that. But doesn't that make reading a long book
problematic because if I am not mistaken, by reading it in Safari there is no
way to bookmark where you leave off. If I am wrong, please let me know.

Yes you did answer this question a couple of days ago, but as I said in my

then the keyboard tab there is no check box for using the F keys for software
functions. That is why I asked if there was anyone on the list that was using

Re: Logitech Solar Keyboard for Mac

2011-11-19 Thread Scott Rumery
Ok I just went to system preferences on my Mac, and I am not finding this
option but I know that I have seen this check box before. I am at a loss as to
what could be going on. I changed keyboards so that I could make sure that
this option is not keyboard specific and it is not because with the other
keyboard the option is still not there. I know that with this other keyboard I
was able to change this option when I first got my Mac, so I do not know where
this check box has gone.
Here is what V o is finding in my keyboard system preferences.
Keyboard selected tab. Keyboard Shortcuts tab one of two. Key Report. Delay
until repeat. 85.7 percent key repeat slider. 40 percent delay until repeat
slider. Off. Slow. Fast. Long. Short. Show keyboard and character viewers
in menu bar checked check box Input Sources Change Keyboard Type, Modifyer
keys, Setup Blue Tooth Keyboard, Help. This is everythin on my Mac within the
keyboard tab in System Preferences. If anyone has any idea as to what I could
do to remedy this I would greatly appreciate it because I would really like to
have my F keys work normally.

Logitech Keyboard Problem Solved

2011-11-19 Thread Scott Rumery
Hello I wanted to let the group know that I have a solution for the issue that
I was having with my new Logitech Wireless solar keyboard for Mac computers. I
was having a problem with the F keys on this keyboard. It seems as though when
you first begin using this keyboard that the F keys are set to perform hardware
functions, and that means that in order to do some of the much needed V O
commands you will have to hold down the F/N key in combination with the V O
keys in order to have them work properly. Well it turns out that by going to
the Logitech website and downloading a program called Logitech Control Center
for Mac and installing it that then the F keys work correctly. It is still
interesting that the check box is still missing in the System Preferences
keyboard tab, but the important thing is that it works the way that I need it
to. Thank you all for the help with this.

Re: Logitech Keyboard Problem Solved

2011-11-22 Thread Scott Rumery
Hi I have not had any trouble with the battery on this particular solar
keyboard. Logitech does have a small app to monitor the charge that your
keyboard has but it is not accessible with V O. As far as the size, it is a
little larger than the aluminum keyboard that Apple sells, and no it is not
foldable. I got this one from Amazon and it cost me around 60 dollars. That
may seem a bit expensive, but for me it was well worth it because I was not
happy with the one I got from Apple because I didn't like the form factor. I
have large hands and this keyboard is much better for me as the keys are a bit
larger than those on the Apple keyboard.

Re: Mac Mini Headphone Jack not Working

2011-11-27 Thread Scott Rumery
Yes the internal works just fine. I am not getting any sound from the line in
jack, and I am also not having luck with my usb sound card which I did have
working last night, but when I woke my Mac this morning was no longer working.
I did a Lion restore this morning and still no luck. What should I look for
in the sounds system preferences?

Safari Does Not Like This Site

2011-11-30 Thread Scott Rumery
Hello, I am having some big time trouble getting Safari to do anything on my
library's website. I get the irritating busy signal over and over again. I
was wondering if someone would be willing to go to
http://www.sequoyahregionallibrary.org and let me know if you have the same
result. I am very happy for the most part with my experience with my Mac since
I got it, but I sure hope that Apple will do something about this busy signal
on Safari, and Google Chrome.

Help with Vocal for Mac

2012-01-16 Thread Scott Rumery
Hello, I have installed Vocal for Mac on my Mac and I also have the iPhone app
installed on my iPhone. I can see my Mac, but when I double tap on it I hear
Voice Over tell me that my system has a new window. I assume that this is a
window that contains a passcode that I need to enter on my iPhone, but I cannot
seem to find anything in this window. As a matter of fact, even though Voice
Over says that my system has a new window, there doesn't seem to be any window
when I start navigating with my VO keys. What am I missing?

Captcha Solving on the Mac

2012-02-14 Thread Scott Rumery
åHello, I am trying to set up a Google Group for a Mac discussion group that I
am starting but I cannot seem to get past the Captcha. Is there any way to get
past a Captcha on the Mac? I know that one can go to www.solona.net, but
whenever I try to go there Safari just shows me a message that says that Safari
could not locate the server. I am not sure if this means that Solona is no
more, or if maybe I have the wrong url. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

It's Days Like These

2012-02-17 Thread Scott Rumery
Hello, as the subject says it's days like the one that I just had that reminds
me why I have made the switch from using a Windows computer to a Mac. I spent
today at my mother in laws house trying to disinfect her computer. Let me tell
you that it was a mess. I know that the Mac is not completely immune from
getting an infection, but it is far less likely to happen on a Mac than a
Windows system. I also like how stable my Mac is as compared to my Windows
computer. I have been on a Mac for about 3 months now, and even though it was
a bit of a challenge learning my way around Lion, once I got comfortable with
it, I must say that I don't even think twice about which system I am going to
use. It is Mac for me. Now if I could only convince my mother in law to get a
Mac.

If you go into the Audio Highjack menu look for something like License.
Otherwise you can probably just go back to the website and purchase it from

Re: Facetime Audio Fails Using Mavericks

2014-02-25 Thread Scott Rumery
Here is what I had to do to get FaceTime Audio to work.

1 Click the Finder icon in the Dock.
2 Choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
3 Type: /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
4 Click Go.
5 In the Finder window, locate the file named "NetworkInterfaces.plist" and
drag this file to the Trash.
6 Restart your computer.
You can see the full KB article here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3297

I hope that this helps.

Using FaceTime Audio

2014-02-26 Thread Scott Rumery
After updating to OS 10.9.2 yesterday the first thing that I wanted to try was
making an audio only call from my Mac. It took me some digging around to figure
out how to place the call and then when I did figure this out my call kept
failing.

After doing several searches on Google I stumbled across an Apple Support
thread on the failure of FaceTime calls and I was able to follow some
instructions that someone had posted to get it working on my Mac.

Here is a blog post that I wrote about this. I hope that if anyone else is
having this issue that this will help them to fix it.

Re: Stability of the Mac

2014-04-01 Thread Scott Rumery
Hello Scott,

You will probably get a lot of varying opinions on this topic so you will have
to decide which ones you will take seriously or not. Having said this let me
first tell you that ever since I switched to using a Mac more than 3 years ago
I have become probably one of the biggest Apple fan boys that there is, so my
thoughts on this subject are going to have a strong Apple bias to them.

If you are wanting a computing environment that is very stable compared to
what you are currently getting on the Windows platform then in my opinion you
would be very happy with a Mac.

The instability of my Windows computer is exactly what helped me to make the
decision to make the switch over 3 years ago.

I used to have to restart my Windows computer several times a day and now that
I am on a Mac I hardly ever need to reboot.

You will notice that I said "hardly." I have had to restart my Mac once in a
while due to lost speech or something, but as I stated with the use the word
hardly this does not happen with any regularity.

Now having said all of this let me give you a little word of caution about
switching platforms. I teach blind people who make this switch how to use their
Macs for a company called Fedora Outlier, LLC and one the biggest mistakes that
people make is thinking that switching from a Windows computer over to a Mac
computer is going to be easy.

It isn't as easy as one might think. After all you are going to have to learn
how to use a totally different operating system and a new and different screen
reader.

Now having said this if you are determined to learn the new platform and you do
it correctly by this I mean that you don't try and learn everything in one day
you can definitely learn how to use a Mac very quickly.

One more thing. In response to your question as to whether or not a Mac is more
stable than a Windows computer. Remember earlier when I said that when I was
still using a Windows computer I would have to restart the computer several
times a day, well with my current Mac which is 2012 Mac Book Pro with 4
Gigabytes of ram I haven't had to restart it in about 2 weeks. My Mac is on 24
hours a day. During the day when I am working I am actually using it, and at
night the Mac will just sleep, but it hasn't been turned off in at least 2
weeks now and VoiceOver is running flawlessly .

I hope that all of this helps you with your decision and if you need anything
else please just ask.

Have a great day,

Scott Rumery

A WordPress Question

2014-05-11 Thread Scott Rumery
For those on the list that are experienced with using the hosted version of
WordPress I have a question for you.

I am currently working on a project at work that requires me to write up blog
posts that have a video recording in them. I then upload this video to our
YouTube page. Now I know that I can just put the link to this video link the
post, but I would actually like to have the video embedded on the page so it
will show up as a frame. This was working a few days ago but for some reason it
no longer works. I have tried using a YouTube plug in but still it doesn't work.

In reading some of the WordPress documentation for our installed version of
WordPress which is 3.9.1 I have learned that this should work automatically by
just pasting the url on its own line in the post but again this doesn't work
for me.

My question to those who have experience with using the WordPress back end is:
does the pasting of a naked url in a post on your site automatically embed the
video in the post?

Thank you for any help with this issue.

You have to make sure that VO is turned off in order for the arrow keys to work
with your connected device.

Oh yeah, make sure that Type2Phone is the app that is in focus when you turn VO

Confirmation Of A VO Bug

2013-10-23 Thread Scott Rumery
 hello everyone,
I've been sitting here all day playing around with the new Mac operating system
mavericks and I have just discovered what I believe is a VO bug and I just want
some confirmation. Can someone try for me a noncontiguous selection in a list
view?
Previously, I was able to do this by pressing VO command on an item to add to
my selection now all that I received is in audible beep when I do this. Does
anyone else find this to be true?

 Thank you, Scott

Stopping VO Speech

Hello,

I am having a bit of trouble with stopping VO when it gets too verbose. I am

Whenever I try and stop VO from talking by pressing the Control key nothing
happens. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem may be. I have
already tried resetting VO to the defaults but this doesn’t change the behavior
.

Evernote On Mac

2013-11-19 Thread Scott Rumery
Good morning all,

I am trying to use Evernote on my Mac and I can’t seem to locate the Sign In
button. When I launch the application I am presented with 3 edit fields, Email,
username, and password. After the password field I have some unlabeled buttons
and a Register button. I already have an Evernote account so the Register
button does not do me any good. Does anyone on the list know which of the
unlabeled buttons might be the sign in button? After this I am going to contact
their support staff about their lack of accessibility with their Mac app.

Thank you,

The FN Key

2013-11-25 Thread Scott Rumery
Hello,

I have just received my new wireless keyboard that I am loving except for one
thing. On the right side of the spacebar the 3 keys are: Command, F/N, and
Control. Now me being right handed and all I would prefer to have an option key
on the right side of the spacebar so that it would make using VO a bit easier
when I need to press a key combination that is on the left side of my keyboard.

Does anyone know if there is a way to change the F/N key into an option key?

Thank you,

Help From The Community

2013-12-02 Thread Scott Rumery
Hello everyone,

I hope that you all had a great Thanksgiving holiday and that now that we are
all back to reality with work and all of the other things that we do on a daily
basis that you will allow me the opportunity to let you in on a little project
of mine.

I recently learned of an accessible ebook reading application called Q-Read.
This is currently only available on the Windows platform but I have been in
contact with the developer who is blind and he has told me that if I can gather
at least 40 Mac users who will agree to purchase the program once he builds it
that he will indeed build it for the Mac.

My question for you all is, would you be interested in such a program on the
Mac and if yes would you please let me know if you will purchase his
application for $30 once it is built? His ultimate goal is to create cross
platform software for the blind on Windows and Macs so once you buy one license
you can use his software on whatever platform that you need it on.

Please let me know privately at blindfait...@gmail.com if I can add your name
to the list of participants for this project.

Thank You,

Scott Rumery

Again, all great points and thank you for putting the information up about the
different formats. I agree, we should not simply dismiss the potential of this
program just because we may not agree with things that the developer has done
previously. Having said this I would hope that people would at least give it a
look and make an educated decision on whether not they want to back the project.

Re: Help From The Community

2013-12-03 Thread Scott Rumery
Okay just to be clear on this. I am not asking anyone who has already purchased
this program for Windows to purchase it again, if fact this is one of the
reasons why I would like to get this project completed because Christopher the
developer says that he would have a model in which if you owned one version
such as the Windows version that you would also be able to use that program
license on the other platform without having to purchase another license.

When I first approached him about making a Mac version of Q-Read, my intentions
were completely selfish because I would like to have something like this
available to us Mac users but as he and I talked via emails and he told me what
it would take for him to put the time and expense into this project I told him
that I would try and get him the 40 Mac users that he said he would need before
getting started on this.

If you are not comfortable with agreeing to purchase a program sight unseen I
am sure that we will have an opportunity to beta test this application before
it is ready for release but don’t hold me to that one because I haven’t yet
asked him if this will be the case or not. I am just assuming it is so because
most software developers do like to have their software tested before they deem
it done.

Again, I am only trying to get someone who has a talent for crating accessible
software to realize that there are a lot of us on the Mac platform that would
probably enjoy the chance to use some of his soft ware on our Macs and I
thought that if I put the message out to the community that I would be able to
round up the 40 Mac users that he has requested.

If after reading this you would like to be involved in making this project a
reality just let me know and I will add you to my list, if not then that is
fine as well, but please don’t bash someone for trying to do something that he
believes would be a good thing for the blind Mac users out there. I am only
trying to come up with a solution to a problem that I have on a daily basis and
that is the lack of a truly accessible eBook and PDF reader on the Mac platform.

Thank you all for your indulgence and letting me get this out.

Not true. There are thousands of free ePub books available on the Internet if
you are willing to just look for them, and those of us who self publish our own
writings usually create drm free eBooks that can be read with such a program.

I am not saying that Q-Read for the Mac will be the only solution for this type
of thing but as of right now I don’t of any other programs that do this that
are completely accessible.

I agree that the ability to read Kindle books and iBooks on the Mac would be
great and I know technically we can read iBooks on the Mac but until Apple
improves the accessibility of it I do not consider it a real option for us. At
least for Kindle content we do now have good access to these on iOS, I just
wish that we would get one of these companies to pay attention to the Mac
platform as well.

Lets remember that just because you can’t justify this type of program, that
doesn’t mean that there aren’t others out there that would like to have such a
solution. These are the types of people that I am looking for. I do however
very much appreciate all of your comments on this because it does give me some

Skype Issue

2013-06-19 Thread Scott Rumery
Hello,

I am having an issue with Skype lately in which the keyboard command for
hanging up a call does not work unless I go into the menu bar and arrow over to
Conversation. Once I do this I can dismiss the menu bar by pressing the escape
key and then my keyboard will work properly. This has been going on for several
weeks now. Is anyone else our there having a similar issue with Skype on their
Mac? If so, have you found any way to make the command work the way that it is
suppose to?

Thank you for any help that you can give me.

Mission Control

2013-06-21 Thread Scott Rumery
Hello All,

I am exploring Mission Control on my Mac because I have heard that you can set
up multiple desktops in it. For instance, I have a work related Safari website
that I need quick access to during my workday and I would like to be able to
use Mission Control to make this a desktop
so that I can quickly flip over to it when I need it.

My question for the group is, has anyone used Mission Control on their Mac, and
if so, would they be willing to point me in the right direction for learning
how to use it?

Thank you for any feedback,
Scott Rumery

Re: Announcing the Beta of Talking Dashboard

2013-06-23 Thread Scott Rumery
Hi Alex,

Thank you for these. I want to at some point learn how to write my own Apple
Scripts but as of yet I haven't started that task.

As I clicked on your link Safari opened but all that I had was an empty html
content area, so thinking that something went wrong, I clicked on it again, and
again, and then one more time before I got the bright idea to check my
Downloads folder to see if what I was actually doing was downloading this file
over, and over again.

Sure enough, I had about 4 copies of the file which brings me to my question
for you. Would it be possible for you to write an Apple Script that could give
the user some confirmation when a download had actually started and ended? This
would be a great piece
 of information to have.

Thanks and have a great day,
Scott Rumery

VM Ware Help Needed

2013-07-01 Thread Scott Rumery
Hello,

I have a client who is trying to use VM Ware with a Windows 7 install on their
Mac Mini and he has run into a problem. When he tries to use his Virtual
install of Windows whenever he presses a key on his keyboard Windows is
registering the key press several times. This is making it unusable by my
client. I instructed him to check the Ease of Access Center on the Windows
install to check and see if Sticky keys is enabled, but beyond that I am not
sure what else could be causing this problem. Is there anyone on the list that
has had this happen to them? I would really like to know how you resolved this.

Thank you,

Re: Anyone Using a Logitech K750 or K760 Bluetooth Keyboard

2013-07-09 Thread Scott Rumery
I would like to say that I have been using the K750 for almost 2 years now on
my Mac and I love it. I tried using the Apple usb Mac keyboard but for me it
just wasn't comfortable enough for me.

I am however very interested in trying the K760 keyboard as this one is a solar
BlueTooth keyboard that you can pare to up to 3 different computers/iOS devices
at the same time.

VMWare and Windows 8

2012-12-04 Thread Scott Rumery
Hello,

I have a need that requires me to use Windows on my Mac. I own VMWare 5 but I
do not own a copy of Windows 8 yet. What is the easiest way to obtain a copy
that I can install on my Mac?

Scott

Odd Problem With Amadeus Pro

2012-12-13 Thread Scott Rumery
Hello,

I am having an odd problem with Amadeus Pro. I installed the 30 day trial of
the program and I was having an issue where every time I launched the program
the previous sound file that I was working on would always open on launch.
That in and of itself is not unusual but the problem is that I cannot close
this window. When I press command Q, or command W all that I get is a buzzing
sound. The only way that I can exit the program is to force quit.

The other problem is that I cannot open a new sound project or do anything with
this open project. All of the items are dimmed.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled with no luck. I have also repaired disc
permissions thinking that this would fix the problem, still no luck.

Does anyone out there have any suggestions as to what the problem could be? I
would love to get this fixed as I would like to be able to use this program. I
should also mention that I did purchase the program thinking that maybe the
problem was some kind of limitation that the demo version had, still no luck.

Thank you,

Hello,

How do I remove someone from a shared folder? I have been trying to do this
from the Drop Box website but I can't seem to get it done. I am hoping that
someone on this list has done this before and maybe will help me to do this.

YoruFukurou

2013-01-08 Thread Scott Rumery
Hello listers,

I have been using YoruFukurou since I moved over to the Mac more than a year
ago. I tried several Twitter clients since I have been using a Mac and I find
that YoruFukurou is about the best when it comes to accessibility, but I do
have one problem with the program. When I am trying to reply to someones tweet
by pressing the return key on my keyboard for some reason YoruFukurou is
selecting a different tweet than the one Voice Over is reading. The only way
that I can seem to get YoruFukurou to reply to the correct tweet is to
interact with that specific tweet and then press return. My question to the
group is, is this the way that YoruFukurou is suppose to behave or am I doing
something wrong?

Re: YoruFukurou

2013-01-08 Thread Scott Rumery
Yes this was the issue here. I found the solution just after posting my
message. Another thing is that you need to have quicknav turned off and you
need to use the dedicated arrow keys instead of using the number pad. This was
my problem, I have a keyboard with a number pad and I use numpad commanders for
using VO.

Amazon Cloud Player

2013-01-18 Thread Scott Rumery
Hello,

Has anyone here had any luck using the Amazon Cloud Player either through
Safari or with the Mac client? I would like to be able to import my music up
to it so that I can access all of my music using the iPhone app as I like the
iPhone app. Every time I try and do this from the browser I am told that Flash
needs to be updated even though I have downloaded the latest version from
Adobe. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Virus invasion

2013-01-26 Thread Scott Rumery
Mary,

There is no need to pay Apple $200 to do something that you can do yourself at
home. Remember that unlike on Windows we can reinstall the operating system
ourselves without any sighted assistance what so ever.

What makes you think that your Mac has an infection? I believe that it is
highly unlikely that your Mac has a virus but as we all know just because we
are using a Mac does not mean that we are immune.
