Re: Dragging and Dropping a mailbox to Favorites

2013-05-29 Thread Jürgen Fleger
Hi Guys,
as someone said in an earlier post: I don't want to crash the party but it
still doesn't work for me. I did everything exactly as Tim described. I
disabled VoiceOver cursor in VO settings under Visual and set the level from 4
to 1. I removed the preview pane and tried all the possibilities with Zoom
switched on and off. I also tried everything out in full screenmode and in
normal mode and pressed VO + Shift + F2 to be very sure the window was in
foreground. I also interacted with the name of the smart mailbox and tried it
without interacting.
What really worked for the first time was, that VO allowed to drag the smart
mailbox that I want to move to the Favoritesbar. But what ever I did I was not
able to drop the mailbox, neither to the favoritesbar itself nor to the
specific place in the favoritesbar I want it to be.

So dear Tim, I'm very grateful for your efforts finding all this out and I
think it was successful for the people answering this thread but me. If you
have any other ideas to try, please let me know. I'd love to have the
possibility to move mailboxes to the favoritesbar.

And a general thought: In my opinion Apple has to work on this to simplify the
way of using drag and drop. That shouldn't be the necessary steps to accomplish
a drag and drop action. I don't think any beginners will manage this. One
strength of Apple should also be for blind users: Apple is easy and intuitive
to use.

All the best
Jürgen

Re: Bibliographically citing material when using eBook readers

2013-05-29 Thread Mike Busboom
This is indeed a shame. I will need to look at Read2Go more carefully to find
out whether that app can render this information, at least with textbooks and
magazine articles that come directly from the publisher. Perhaps, if we are
fortunate, any Kindle updates might give us this information, too.

Best regards,

Mike

Re: Dragging and Dropping a mailbox to Favorites

2013-05-29 Thread Brian Fischler
Hey guys,

Must be some kind of a VO issue on my machine, as I followed all of your steps
exactly from the F5 and sure enough the drafts mailbox was under the VO cursor
the entire time. I also checked my settings per Tim's email and my navigation
was properly set up per his suggestions. I am still getting an Apple menu to
pop open when I push down on the trackpad over the drafts mailbox when trying
to remove it from the favorites bar. I also tried using the VO command shift
space bar but this jumps me in to the messages pane of the drafts folder, which
is weird since I used that same command to remove the other mailbox
successfully that I wanted out of favorites. So it is strange that the same
command will not work a second time, but nothing ever shocks me when it comes
to voiceover. So strange, and its not the end of the world if the drafts
mailbox stays in the favorites, but obviously would be nice to get it out of
there.

And yes, Tim I had toggled VO off and on several times previous to your
suggestion, as I usually find VO needs to reboot itself at least once a day for
some reason some times.

Thanks again, and please do let me know if you think of anything else.

Hey Jürgen

Did you try doing all of this in non classic view? I am the one who started
this thread and wasn't able to move a mailbox into the favorites until I tried
all of Tim's great steps with classic view turned off. Good luck

Hi Brian!
I've been following this thread!
I've not done any of this myself but was wondering because you've mentioned
drafts!
That mailbox can appear and disappear so would it make a difference if you have
a drafted message in the box then tried to move it!
Only guessing!

Hey Thought you might be on to something about drafts, but I just cleared the
folder out so there ar eno messages, and am still getting the same issues when
I do the mouse down it opens some Apple menu and of course I can't even scroll
through whatever Apple menu it is opening, so unfortunately that didn't do the
trick. Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: Dragging and Dropping a mailbox to Favorites

2013-05-29 Thread Nicholas Parsons
Hi Les,
I decided to get the TrackPad with my iMac, but I'm sure the Magic Mouse will
work just the same. I suppose you'll just need to click and drag the mouse away
from your iMac instead of clicking and swiping on the TrackPad. Let us know if
you have any difficulties with that.

Jürgen,
I'm not sure Tim's instructions included disabling VO curser, did they? I
thought it was just setting the magnification to 1?

Brian,
Not sure about the Apple menu business. Hopefully that's a problem that might
go away by itself. But as to pressing VO-command-space on a favourites bar item
to remove it, that should never work as clicking a favourites bar item should
check that mailbox and make it active. VO-command-shift-space might work, but
you might run into the same problem. Maybe try getting out of full screen mode
and moving the Mail window down to the lower part of the screen. I think the
keystroke is VO-command-accent. I'm guessing that somehow your Drafts mailbox
is close to the Apple menu. Moving the Mail app window down away from the top
of the screen might help avoid this.

Cheers,
Nic

VoiceOver Detective Needed

Hi All,

This is nothing more than a curiosity question as all is working fine.

I take pride in always knowing why VoiceOver is saying what it is saying on my
Mac. Recently, however, when I quit Apple Mail on my MacBook Pro, instead of
saying "quitting Mail" like it use to, VoiceOver now says "Menu Bar" I have no
idea why this has changed as everything is working perfectly normally. Anybody
know why I am now hearing "Menu Bar" when quitting mail?

Re: VoiceOver Detective Needed

There are several things that could cause this.

1. Though unlikely, you were pressing command+W instead of Command+Q to
quit Mail.
2. You closed Mail with several windows not just the main inbox window
opened.

3. You have a corrupted Apple Script, which is playing havoc.

4. You had your vo keys locked with vo+semicolon, thus actually causing
Voiceover to navigate to next block quote, which normally is vo+command+q,
although this is probably unlikely, seeing that you hit a menu bar.

5. You were really stupid, and changed the pronunciation dictionary entry
from saying quitting mail, to saying menu bar instead, then attached it to
an activity for mail.app

6. Or, the absolute most likely cause, you have Voiceover set after a
certain amount of time to read what is under the mouse, and your mouse
pointer at the time of quitting mail, just happened to be sitting on the
menu bar, thus, triggering that announcement.

The only other thing I know of would be a corrupted plist file, though
again, this is very unlikely. The other thing is that you were trying to
quit by a mapped keystroke which has been mapped to a key combination on a
braille display which isn't working correctly.

Or, you had a wireless keyboard, be it bluetooth or not, and either the
batteries were getting low and causing unwanted results, or the transmition
in general was not being properly interpreted. The only other thing I could
think is that you have a Windows keyboard connected, and were pressing what
you thought was command+q when actually, you were pressing option+q, as
remember, the command and option keys will be reversed on a Windows keyboard
plugged into an Apple machine. Furthermore to expand on that, you also in
addition to having those keys reversed would have had to have a keyboard
commander set up where by option+Q opens your menu bar. I dono why you'd
ever set it that way, but each is to his or her own, I guess.

Those are the only reasons I can think of. the only other is your
schizophrenic and are hearing voices that aren't there. No, just kidding.
LOL!

Wait to crash numbers

2013-05-29 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi guys
I don't know if this is a voiceover issue, or a Mac issue that has nothing to
do with voiceover. However, I am able to crash numbers almost every time by
doing the following:
Number one put in some text.
Number to copy that text to the clipboard.
Number three using command and the accent key, go to another file.
Number four go to a cell where you would like to paste the text.
Number five paste the text in.
Number six press command q.

I have gotten an era several times by doing this, and the computer wants me to
send in a report to Apple, which I did and wrote out similar comments to this.
Have the rest of you had this problem?
Regards,
Gigi

Re: type2phone arrow keys not working

2013-05-29 Thread Chris H
No. Best thing to do is turn off VoiceOver on the mac side for the app
to work properly. You do not need to assign shortcuts to menu commands
as QuickNav on the iOS side works properly providing VoiceOver on the
mac side is off.

strange problem with VoiceOver

figure out where this problem came from. It is most frustrating. Thank you for

Did you somehow turn down punctuation? Go to VO's settings, then double tap
rotor. Find punctuation in the list of rotor items and, if it is not already
selected, double tap it. Now rotor to punctuation and swipe up or down to
change the setting to whatever you want.

Another Question about Pages

2013-05-29 Thread Christopher Edwards

Hello,

Now I am gradually getting back to normal after several months of building
work on my house I am trying to get to grips with Pages again. I have
compiled a small archive of messages about this program and found it most
useful. However, when it comes to giving a paragraph a particular style the
instructions I have just do not work. This is what I have done.

1. Selected a paragraph.
2. Opened the Styles Drawer with CMD+Shift+T.
3. Stopped interacting with all elements of the document including the
Scroll area.
4. Navigate the menu bar with VO+left Arrow. At this point I was not
surprised to find that the text became unselected as that is what I found
happened when formatting characters and was told on this list that this
deselection was quite normal.

5. The Styles Menu was obviously dimmed.
6. I thought this might be something to do with cursor tracking so I turned
it off after I had done steps 1 and 2 above.

7. I then repeated the other steps and the Styles menu was not dimmed.
8. I brought the mouse pointer to the VO Cursor and clicked on the menu.
9. The menu opened but the only thing VO reported was a Check Box and no
list of styles or a list of keys I could attach to a style. I could not use
the arrow keys or VO+arrow keys or the tab key to move anywhere. I could
only close the menu.

I know it would probably be a good idea to take Anne's course on Pages but
before doing so I would like to get a few concepts clear in my mind. I think
I just have made a basic error when following the instructions. So, if
anyone could point out my error it would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Chris

Question about group emails

2013-05-29 Thread Jim Portillo
Hello there,

I hope this is not too off topic, but we'll see.

On the IPhone, how can I create something similar to a distribution list so
that I can mail a group of people all at once? I am in a situation where I
will need to send several emails to a group of people, throughout a period
of time, and I would like to simply type in one name of a group and email
that way. And, if I don't need to show everyone's email address, even
better. Is it possible?

I do know that I can text a group of people.

Jim

The styles menu doesn't work with vo. There is an element to the left of the

Re: Wait to crash numbers

I haven't had that specific problem but the list of voiceover issues with
numbers is long, and yes I have spoken to Apple Accessibility several times
about them, and gotten the standard, we're aware of the problem, but can't
comment on when it might be fixed. I have given up on numbers and moved to

mac client for the Playroom?

2013-05-29 Thread Jessica Moss
For anyone familiar with this server, what do you all think the likelyhood
would be that they'll ever develop a mac client for it? I have a friend who
recently joined them after being on rsgames for a while and said they had more
people on their, which I find pretty believable sense after signing up, I found
that it had way more games, but when I went to download their client, I found
they only had one for Windows, which was really disappointing.
So whatever anyone's thoughts are on thins, would really be appreciated,
sense I would really love to try these.

Hi,

The styles menu doesn't work with vo. There is an element to the left of
the tule bar called drawer that you interact with. You will find of of the
things you need in there.

Hope that helps.

Hello,

Now I am gradually getting back to normal after several months of building

Chris

I have not heard anyone suggest that a Mac client is in the works for this

Re-creating playlists destroyed by syncing to iPhone 5 from MacBook iTunes

2013-05-29 Thread Mark BurningHawk Baxter
I recently think a playlist full of songs from my MacBook Pro to my iPhone 5
via iTunes. They arrived out of order, and not assigned to the play list in
which I sent them. Now, whenever I search by artist or song, they are randomly
distributed by alphabetical order within my main folder.

Is there a way for me to regain the structure of the playlists within which
they were bundled when I sent them to the iPhone?

Thanks a lot. I'm still learning a lot about my iPhone, and having a great
time. The only reason I don't send to the iPhone list is that my subscription
has not yet been approved. (This means you Raul)

Re: Question about group emails

2013-05-29 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

Not sure about the actual creation of the Group on the iPhone itself. I looked
around a little but the Contacts app didn't seem to have that functionality.
You should be able, though, to do this by creating the groups in the Contacts
app on your Mac. Then if you've synced your Contacts with the iCloud service,
they should all be synced to the iPhone as well. In fact, I don't have any
Contacts either locally on my Macs or locally on my iDevices, they are all
stored in iCloud. Therefore, if I add a contact or make a change to anyone's
contact info, it is automatically synced to all my devices.

I'm travelling on a bus right now but when I get to the hotel, I'll see if my
iPhone allows me to use any of the Groups of contacts similar to the way it
does it on my Macs.

Re: Re-creating playlists destroyed by syncing to iPhone 5 from MacBook iTunes

2013-05-29 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

What process did you use to sync the Playlist over to your iPhone? Normally,
from the iPhone pane within iTunes, you can tell it to sync specific playlists
from your iTunes Library. Those playlists should subsequently show up as the
same playlist on your iPhone when you go to the Playlists tab within the Music
app of your iPhone.

Re: Dragging and Dropping a mailbox to Favorites

2013-05-29 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi Jürgen,

It shouldn't matter whether you're in Classic or the newer layout, and turning
Cursor Tracking off tends not to work with the newer form of Drag & Drop. Some
things to try that I've noticed:

• do not use Full-Screen mode.
• If you exit Full-Screen mode after being in it, the Drag & Drop is still a
crap-shoot. That is, for the most part, very unresponsive and frustrating.
• After exiting Full-Screen, Quit the Mail app, then you can re-open it and it
should behave nicely.
• Sometimes you can turn off VO then turn it back on but the Quit/re-open Mail
is much more reliable in getting the Drag & Drop to do what it is supposed to.

I realize that in one of my original posts, I mentioned that Full-Screen mode
was desirable, but I totally retract that assertion. Full-Screen mode will
cause you much grief in this process.

HTH.

Re: Dragging and Dropping a mailbox to Favorites

2013-05-29 Thread Tim Kilburn
Brian,

By any chance, do you have Safari open behind Mail? The only time that I've
had VO bringing up that Apple menu thing was when focus supposedly was
somewhere on a web-page and VO wasn't tracking very cooperatively. If not, let
me know and I'll keep testing to see if I can duplicate this in Mail for you.

 HI,

 Re getting rid of favourites:
• Do not use the VO-shift-space keystroke. As Tim said-
1.  Navigate to the mailbox you wish to remove;
2. Make sure your TrackPad commander is off by holding down the VO
 keys and rotating two fingers counter clockwise on the TrackPad;
3.  Use VO-command-F5 to rout the mouse pointer to the VO curser;
4. Press VO-F5 to check that the mouse curser is on the mailbox
 you wish to remove;
5.  If it's not, repeat steps 3 and 4 until it is;
6. Press the TrackPad down into the click position and hold it,
then drag one finger from the top of the TrackPad to the bottom and then
 release the TrackPad entirely.
7. You should here a swooshing sound indicating that the mailbox
is no longer in your favourites bar. If you don't, repeat steps 1 through
 7.

Re the checkboxes in favourites bar, these simply display the relevant
mailbox. They should really be radio buttons instead of checkboxes, as
only one can be active/checked at the one time. So when you press
command-3, for example, the third mailbox will become checked and active.
If you then navigate to the favourites bar and check the fourth mailbox,
the view will change and your fourth mailbox will become active and in
view. This is how you can still use the favourites bar even with more than
9 mailboxes. The first nine you can navigate to with keystrokes, the rest
 you need to check manually.

 Best,
 Nic

Several iPhone 5 questions.

2013-05-29 Thread Mark BurningHawk Baxter
Hi folks. Last one for the night from me, promise.

One. How do I re-create a playlist which was fragmented when sinking from my
MacBook to my iPhone 5? It is now started by artists, not playlist, which is
how it was originally sent.

Two. Where do I find the wealth of podcasts I know are out on the Internet
about iOS 6? Specifically, I am looking for a podcast on the weather
underground, which has a high visual user interface component, which I'm trying
to determine how much of I can use.(Sorry about the split preposition.) When
using the podcast app that I got with the iPhone 5, I see very few voiceover
podcasts. It is also confusing to me how many of these may refer to voiceovers
of video content, have nothing to do with the actual application called voice
over.

I'm sure I've forgotten something, but that's all for now. Thanks: :-)
