Re: Kindle app
Only the PC Kindle Software is accessible and for that you will have to download the version with the accessibility plugin. This works fine in a Fusion Windows virtual machine on the Mac though. Re: Kindle app
Hi. I got sighted assistance to sign in to the mac version. But correct you can not read your books in the mac version as a blind user. As I understand it, you can not download the accessible version if you are living in europe. I am from Denmark, and I can not download it. Best regards Annie. remote disk accessible?
Hi all, I was trying to rip a cd the other day using a windows laptop withe apple's remote disk utility installed. It did not work - I saw the disk on my mac, but I was told there would be a button to click to ask to use it, yet I saw not button of any kind. Without this button, I cannot get the disk to work, of course. Am I missing a step, or is this, for some reason, inaccessible? Thanks. iTunes questions: custom metadata, and multiple genres?
Hi all, I'm now modifying all those songs in my library that are "unknown", and I have two questions. 1. Can I add a custom metadata field? In addition to album, artist, and all that, I'd like to add a "key" field so I can see what key a song is in. 2. Can I assign multiple genres to a track? If so, how? VO reports the genre field as a combo box, something I've never encountered on osx before. Thanks, and I'm really enjoying iTunes, as much as I hate to admit that. I still don'w like it much for iOS management, but for music it's really proving quite nice, especially with the remote app. Have a great day, Alex (msg sent from Mac Mini) mehg...@gmail.com -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: iTunes questions: custom metadata, and multiple genres?
Hi, I don't believe that there is facility for Custom fields within the tagging mechanism of iTunes. If you wish to put items into multiple Genres, I'd put your secondary Genre into the Grouping field. The combo box for Genre works in two ways, you can choose from the list of Genres provided or enter one yourself. While on the Genre item, just enter whatever you wish to name it, it will now become one of the choices within the combo box. I usually just enter the first few letters of whatever Genre in there anyway and iTunes finishes my typing for me. HTH. Later... Gestures on iMac?
Hey all, Excuse the ignorance, but I'm looking to get an iMac in the near future. I was under the impression that the track pad gave you the ability to perform gestures or navigate as if you were using an actual mouse -- not unlike the iPhone, for example. Last month however, I had someone come and give a demonstration with a MacBook. She admittedly preferred jaws but said that you couldn't do gestures like on the iPhone (which is something that disappointed her.) I'm just looking for some clarification as far as what I can do with the track pad on the iMac so I know what to expect. I know iMacs aren't bound solely by keyboard shortcuts but what function does the trackpad serve and what are its potential limits? Re: Playing Flash Movies
This is correct, if it starts playing automatically it's fine, but the flash controls and content will not read. Adobe has made it clear they have no interest in fixing this on the mac. One thing you can do in the case of youtube, go to http://youtube.com/html5 Click the option to join the html5 trial. Once that is done, many of the videos will play using html 5 instead of flash and this will make the controls accessible. Eventually flash will totally be phased out in favor of html 5 but this may take a while. Original message: Thanks, that does sound like a good tip. I'll try it. Hopefully it wont block plugins I actually use. So, am I right to conclude that apart from flash players that are controlled by HTML controls and players that load automatically like youtube, flash movies are completely inaccessible for VoiceOver users on the Mac? Re: iTunes questions: custom metadata, and multiple genres?
Hi there! I do not know if this will suit your needs, But you could add [under Command+J ] the field Categories and put into that field what Key that track is in or one of the other fields that you think would work better for field! In that window you can add or get rid of any fields you wish to show in your Itunes and it looks like they can be different in different lists! I.E. in my main album view I have columns that do not appear in my Recently added window so you can really customise each for what you want to see! It is just a case of going through the items and checking or unchecking what you want! Re: Gestures on iMac?
Provided you get a Magic Trackpad, you can. For instance, you can rotor, flick, use the two-finger reading gestures, or move around to explore the screen. Not all gestures match up, and screen exploration is based on what vo is interacting with at the time, but my brief exploration of the feature seemed to indicate that it does work well. You can also set up a trackpad commander, so you can hold a key and perform a gesture to activate a custom function. Re: Gestures on iMac?
Mark, I would suggest that the demonstrator doesn't know what they are doing, well at least properly. The Magic Track Pad, as Apple refer to it for the iMac… I use this on a day to day bases with my iMac, the commands mirror up to a large extent in line with the iOS commands. You can turn on and turn off Track Pad Commander, which allows for you to use iOS like gestures when it is on, and mouse like movements when it is off. You can have Voice Over follow the mouse, or the mouse follow Voice Over, or Voice Over and the mouse to have nothing to do with one and other. Then like with JAWS, for example, you can route one to the other if you need to perform a task. The way I personally do it most of the time is to have the mouse follow Voice Over, this I am pretty sure is the default. Doing it this way you can always know that the mouse is where the Voice Over cursor is. Then you can choose, do you wish to use iOS gestures to navigate or mouse like movements. Just adjust the Track Pad Commander control and away you go. There are a few additional things you need to know, these will make sense if you already use a Mac, but, essentially revolve around interacting with on screen elements. Let me know if you'd like to know more. Re: Gestures on iMac?
Hi, I'm guessing that she was simply not totally familiar with the use of VO and the Mac. As long as the MacBook was released within the last three years or so, then the gestures will work. She may have simply had the Trackpad commander turned off. It is turned on by holding down the VO keys and doing a two-finger rotate clockwise or going into the VO Utility, to the Commanders section and turning on the Trackpad Commander in the Trackpad pane. As mentioned, there are many additional commands that can be added in the Trackpad Commander and they are not all exactly the same as on the iPhone but they must be enabled first in order to work. Re: Question About Building A Website
Hey guys, I have been trying to find a solution to edit my websites that work with Voiceover. Does anyone know with Rapid Weaver if the icons are accessible as I am not familiar with writing code or html. When I could still see a little I was able to update my sites by editing in a template, but have yet to find something that works on the mac with VO. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Re: my CF card reader won't show up on the desktop
Do you have the memory card in the reader? If not, it definitely won't show on the desktop since the finder does not show blank drives, I would think it would still show in disk utility though. Have you tried another port? If that doesn't work you might try another computer. If that doesn't work, you may have a bad card reader. Re: remote disk accessible?
Hi Alex, I'm pretty sure that you can't use remote disc sharing on a Windows machine if haven't installed additional software to enable this, even if the drive is visible from your Mac. Did you read the Apple Documentation? Here's the link to the knowledge base article: • DVD or CD sharing: Using Remote Disc: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5287 There are also links to "Instructions for DVD or CD Sharing and Remote Disc" on that web page. I think the software download can be found from the Apple knowledge base support web site: • DVD or CD Sharing Update 1.0 for Windows http://support.apple.com/kb/DL112 That web page also has a link to the MacBook Air User's Guide where you can read up on remote DVD and CD sharing. I've never tried sharing CD/DVD resources with a Windows machine, but from past memory of doing network sharing you have to set things up. HTH. "Open with" duplicate solution
Hello everyone, Several days ago I posted a question that others were also experiencing. This dealt with viewing duplicate application options when interacting with the context menu. After performing a general google search, I found that external drives may be the cause to this problem. After disconnecting my external drive and rebooting my computer, the problem seems to have disappeared. However, my question is upon initial start-up my external partitioned drive is seen by my machine, but I eject this because it is not needed in most cases. Thus, if upon ejecting the drive should not the duplicate application options likewise not appear because the external drive is not longer being viewed by my iMac? Thanks for any feedback or suggestions guys. P.S. Found an accessible freeware audio conversion program iSonics, which can be downloaded at: iSonic audio converter The caveat is for batch conversion, each file needs to be added separately to the project. Have rapidly converted WMA files within literally minutes. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: remote disk accessible?
Hi Alex, You don't need to install additional software if you want to share a CD or DVD drive from another Mac, but you do need to enable the DVD or CD Sharing under System Preferences > Sharing from the Service List. Did you read the documentation? It may also depend on what operating system you have loaded on your Mac Mini, because you have to grant permission for the machine with the CD or DVD drive you want to use to share its resources. I don't know whether there are restrictions on older hardware, but I think you can even share drives on machines running Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4 -- the first version of the OS with VoiceOver built in) provided you have the latest version and install an additional software update. And I think there are some different instructions if you're using the DVD for remote software installation with Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6) or earlier. I've never used a Mac Mini, so my only advice is to read the instructions in the links or other Apple documentation that are appropriate to you machine. HTH. Re: Kindle app
I agree, I've written them at least five times but that's not enough. We should start organizing a plan. I'm annoyed at all the ridicules greed driven decisions made against visually impaired and blind people. The fact is the vo or read aloud works on their Kindle so they are'nt worried about sighted people using it instead of audio books, they want us to buy their kindle hardware - which makes no sense whatsoever as the last thing I need is another book reader with a cumbersome screen I can't appreciate. It's bad enough the ebook industry has formed a cartel-like union, inflating eBook prices well above paperback costs, without the production costs, nor the jobs printing books would provide; now they are placing obstacles to accessibility. It's inexcusable. Tammy L.
