Do you have the memory card in the reader? If not, it definitely won't
show on the desktop since the finder does not show blank drives, I
would think it would still show in disk utility though. Have you tried
another port? If that doesn't work you might try another computer. If
that doesn't work, you may have a bad card reader.

I'm trying to use a USB card reader I got at Radio Shack to
format/write to a 4G CF card using Mountain Lion. It won't even show
up as a drive in Disk Utility, nor on the desktop. Any ideas how to fix this?
