Re: download window with lion
Hi May, Command-Option-L to bring up the Safari downloads window only works if you do not have your toolbar hidden. If your toolbar is hidden, then even though VoiceOver says "Show Downloads" when you use this shortcut, nothing is displayed. So you might press Command-Shift-Backslash to toggle your Safari toolbar to be shown before trying that shortcut. Also, you can navigate to a "Show Downloads" button in the toolbar and press it with VO-Space to show your downloads window. I have the vague impression that when I first upgraded to Lion, I may have had to press that button once, to later get my downloads window to show. Again, this only works if your toolbar is not hidden. You can press Command-Option-F to navigate to the Google Search field, then VO-Right arrow to the "Show Downloads" button, and press it with VO-Space. HTH. @shawn: here I am with feedback from last experiments of yesterday with skype and growl: negative result, as always. Procedure: - set growl as default notification center in skype 5.6 preferences - set "speech" as default notification style in growl settings - set speech and enable notification for first received message, received message and instant message received, inside growl's skype settings window. then close settings window with command+w, and let it go Well: the "contact is on line" message is pronounced correctly. The message, it always says "contact writes" and then does not read the message content! Re: Mac Mini Home Theater Setup
Hi. Well, that's a big question. Do you know all about cables and connections? If not then I need to know what connecters you have access to. I don't know much about external cameras and mikes, so I'll skip that one. Regarding keyboards, I really like Apples wireless keyboard. I don't know any accessible app which can totally control your Mini from an IOS device. If you are using iTunes, then you have some great controls in the remote app Apple has made. But if you're using VLC like me because I wanna have some control over my music and folder structure, then you have the VLC control app. You need to have in mind that if you connect your sound system with an digital cable, you can't control the master volume from the computer or any app. that needs to be adjust on your sound system. Re: Mac Mini Home Theater Setup
I like the Apple wireless devices for controlling our MacMini hooked up to a TV. I don't use the OSX gesture stuff much so that wasn't an issue for me. Not everything is accessible such as eyeTV for DVR but the Apple DVD player works fine along with iTunes. I use the optical outputs to the home theater amp to get all the surround sound stuff. As was mentioned, if you go with the digital output then volume control will be on the stereo, not on your Mac. Re: Something I just Learned With Skype and Growl + Facebook
While I am running Snow leopard here and Growl 32 bit, I notice that I can neither change the voice Growl uses, nor its speed. Thus, I now have a message / system voice, VoiceOver, Growl's voice and, every half hour, Vicky announcing the time. Freaks my friends out. Now, as far as the Skype Home, facebook integration thing: I am actually rather disappointed in it. First, if you compare what's in the HTML pane of Skype Home and what you see if you go to your home page via a browser, there are posts in the browser that aren't listed in Skype Home. Also, while I like the idea of my mood messages and/or music going to my wall (makes me look all cool and edgy and ... stuff...), reading through others' wall / status updates is problematic--VO keeps getting "hung up," on picture icons, there are a lot of HTML tags that aren't read out, and I suspect lots of stuff is missing, even more than I find when comparing the Skype Home pane to the Safari page... This all could be due to the fact that I"m not running Lion. It might also be that I only see the Facebook of those who also have Skype Home running. Either way, it's still way easier to read Facebook posts from the website by navigating by headings... There's my rant. Re: Something I just Learned With Skype and Growl
I have this suspicion too! For example: growl has, on its settings - i do not remember where-, a button called preview which makes you listen the voice you are choosing for notifications. With voiceover on, preview does not talk. with voiceover off, preview talks and loops! till I do not close the window I hear the preview message! The strange thing is growl does not read notifications with other apps too; I tried on line with Musicality support (musicality, an app to listen to last.fm service) if growl notified me the song title but nothing worked to me, the app creator, tried both with voiceover off and on, getting a positive result of growl talking in both cases! To complete information, I just tell you I am using OSX lion with compact voice. In Growl, I can get the Preview button to make a voice, but it's always a voice that sounds very much like Alex, but then, the author's name is right there by the speech, which makes me wonder whether it's another synthesizer template. Help on keyboard problem
Dear all, I have installed several Bluetooth keyboard recently and have landed my self in a little problem. My last was to install the RIVO Bluetooth keyboard. Now when I do not want to use any Bluetooth keyboard, my iphone keyboard does not seem to respond well. This problem is present in the following situations. 1. Dialing, 2. 2. Keying in SMS, 3. 3. Keying in passwords for updating. I will be able to click the shift key, however, when typing other keys, the key board just doesn't respond. However, if I turn off the Voiceover and use it as a normal iphone, than it will be okay. Would appreciate some form of advice. Re: Something I just Learned With Skype and Growl
No, the problem with Skype is independent of those with Growl; they are just occurring simultaneously. What I *REALLY!* want you to tell Skype is that the audible sounds that announce new messages do *NOT* play, still, if your focus is in the Skype window. Regardless of whether Growl is set to speak messages, the little bleep should bleep when a message comes in, regardless of where your focus is. It has occurred that I have waited for messages to come in and not moved my focus out of the Skype window, and they have arrived silently; this is due *BOTH* to Growl's voice issues *AND* to Skype's inability to speak message text as well as to play the bleeping message received sound. Both of these things need to be fixed in Skype. Growl's voice issues need to be fixed as well. • Mark BurningHawk Baxter • AIM, Skype and Twitter: BurningHawk1969 • MSN: burninghawk1...@hotmail.com • My home page: • http://MarkBurningHawk.net/ -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: download window with lion
Hi Søren, That's interesting. I'm using a MacBook Air with Lion. When I go to full screen mode by pressing command ctrl f in Safari, my toolbar is displayed even if I have hidden it. I can check this by navigating to the menu bar with either ctrl F2 or VO m, then going to the "View" menu and arrowing down. If I check this menu before toggling to full screen mode, the first entry shows as "Show Toolbar". And in this mode, with my toolbar hidden, when I press ctrl option l there is no downloads window displayed, even though VoiceOver says "Show Downloads". If I show my toolbar, either by using the "View" menu option or the shortcut for toggling the toolbar between show and hide, which is ctrl shift backslash on an English language input keyboard, then the downloads window will show up when I press ctrl option l. Similarly, making Safari run in full screen mode by toggling this on with command ctrl f will also let my downloads window show up when I press ctrl option l. But what happens here is that my toolbar is forcibly shown when I'm in full screen mode. If I navigate to the menu bar and check the "View" menu while in full screen mode, the first menu entry will show up as "Hide Toolbar" and will also be announced as "dimmed", indicating that I can't change this. Furthermore, I can test whether the toolbar is present by using the shortcut ctrl F5 for navigating to the toolbar. When my toolbar is hidden, pressing ctrl F5 will not take me to the toolbar, because it's hidden. As previously stated, in this mode I can't see the downloads window when I press command option l. If I show my toolbar, and am not in full screen mode, then pressing ctrl F5 takes me to the "Back button" of the toolbar. Now, even if my toolbar is hidden when I am not in full screen mode, once I press command ctrl f, and VoiceOver says "Enter Full Screen", it becomes visible. If I press ctrl F5, I'll be taken to the "Back button", and I check the "View" menu, "Hide Toolbar" appears as dimmed. And because the toolbar is now forcibly shown, even though it was originally hidden when not in full screen mode, pressing command option l now shows me my downloads folder. I wonder if the difference in behavior, where I can view the downloads folder when the toolbar is not hidden without having to run Safari in full screen mode, is another one of those instances of English-specific shortcut key mapping? I know that UK users are also able to view the downloads folder if their toolbar is not hidden, without having to put Safari into full screen mode. Re: download window with lion
Hi Esther. So you have a Macbook pro 15 inch? Safari works differently with VOiceover on a 15 inch Macbook. I've experienced things like focusing issues in java windows, the mouse getting stuck on the desctop while moving it to the webpage with VO command f5, and clicking by pressing VO shift spacebar and the other weird issue by bringing up the downloads folder. I know people who have a macbook 13 inch and an iMac, where this doesn't happen. Hi Søren, No, I've never had a MacBook larger than 13 inches. And I've never typed more than occasionally on desktop Macs, so I haven't experienced these issues. This sounds like the issues are screen-resolution/size specific. I wonder whether anyone else with the larger Mac laptops can report on their experiences with Safari. I do note that the major reason I've found to delay upgrades between major releases of Mac OS X is usually the new behavior of Safari. Also, the first system versions after a new release may show up more VoiceOver focus issues than previously experienced in mature, stable releases. Thanks for reporting on your experience. Starting the phone app automatically after unlocking the phone after upgrading to iOS 5.1
Hi folks. I remember the discussion on iOS 5.1 a week ago, and tried to search the group before posting this, but I couldn't find anything related. Since I thought this was a nice idea, I didn't care that much, but right now this is beginning to piss me a bit off... As the subject says... Have anyone of you had that thing with your iPhone 4S? If so, is it that way it should be, or is it a bug? If it is a bug, is there something to do with that, or do we have to wait for Apple to do something? -Best regards David -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: Starting the phone app automatically after unlocking the phone after upgrading to iOS 5.1
yes I believe this is a bug in the 5.1 update my 4S did not do this untill then. However I think apple may have done it on purpose . It launches the app that is first in your doc. So if you have a app that you want to launch every time you unlock your phone put it first in yourdoc. This only occurs when you touch the screen right away after unlocking but not after waiting a sec to do anything. jason n Mar 20, 2012, at 4:39 PM, David Hole wrote: > Hi folks. > I remember the discussion on iOS 5.1 a week ago, and tried to search > the group before posting this, but I couldn't find anything related. > Since I thought this was a nice idea, I didn't care that much, but > right now this is beginning to piss me a bit off... > As the subject says... hi mike, very strange! Unfortunately i do not know how to help, apps should show automatically. For shawn and others: here is the result of my last test: I turn voiceover on, and skype uses the integrated notification instead of growl. or, it uses growl but its functionality is incomplete...it reads incoming contacts but not chats. Re: Starting the phone app automatically after unlocking the phone after upgrading to iOS 5.1
this is not a deliberate action. this is a software flaw and confirmed. what is actually happening is a "considered tap" so that as soon as you unlock, the first app you consider tapping calls up the previous app or assigned dock app first. so this is something we need to fix. lew On 20 Mar 2012, at 21:15, jason lefevers wrote: > yes I believe this is a bug in the 5.1 update my 4S did not do this untill > then. Western Digital My BOok Live Duo and ssh
So, Needless to say the WD web interface is not very well done and in fact has irritated me in many ways. So, I had initially setup the device and was able to access it via ssh. However, recently I am no longer able to access the WD via ssh and I continue to get a "Permission denied" message. So, before I take the extreme measure of wiping the WD out and starting over I thought I would ask if anyone has encountered the problem and may have a suggestion how to get around it. Btw, I have ssh enabled and I cannot access it via root or as a user on the device. THanks, -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Drobo dashboard, is it accessible?
All, I was talking with someone today about nas devices and some issues I have been having. He mentioned the Drobo which I know is pretty expensive and he was explaining that you access the Drobo via a dashboard app that also requires you to install java. I asked if he had ever thought to see if it were compatible with VoiceOver, but he did not. So, I was curious if anyone on the list has used a Drobo and can comment on the accessibility of the Dashboard. I'll post my other issue in a separate post regarding my nas problem. someone using adium?
hello, maybe most of you saw the thread I had with some people about automatically spoken chats in skype program well, maybe I noticed where's the trouble: when voiceover is activated Growl does not talk, while it reads whole messages when it's off! But, I noticed, it is not a growl problem, that's why I asked if someone is using adium as instant messenger. I set up notification in this client too, as it was known to be working with voiceover. And the problem came back! Adium is not connected to growl! well, it was... but now I just deactivated growl from adium, so it shouldn't work but the result is the same: with adium: if voiceover is on, notification stay silent. if it's off, they talk! what's going on? someone uses adium regularly and vo works? osx lion 10.7.2, and adium 1.5. thanks! -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. It has occurred that I have waited for messages to come in and not moved my focus out of the Skype window, and they have arrived silently; this is due *BOTH* to Growl's voice issues *AND* to Skype's inability to speak message text as well as to play the bleeping message received sound. Re: Drobo dashboard, is it accessible?
Hi Skott, As of this writing Drobo Dashboard is not accessible. When you launch the program VoiceOver does not see the program's controls. It would be nice if we could get in contact with the developer and get them to do something about this problem. I havent been able to update a Drobo FS in months because of this Doug Sent from my iPhone On 2012-03-20, at 8:05 PM, Scott Howell wrote: > All, > > I was talking with someone today about nas devices and some issues I have > been having. RE: Help on keyboard problem
Hi Ricardo, Thanks for responding. I have already tried the following. 1. Rebooting the phone 2. Set for forget all my bluetooth keyboards. What I have not done is to use the reset to factory default. My phone is an iPhone 4 and I have upgraded to version 5.1. If I were to reset, will it go back to version 4.1? Frankly, I think it is the Voiceover that is at problem. Is that a way for me just to reinstall the Voiceover? Everything works well accept when I want to key in numbers or letters. All other work fine. I also face this problem when I reboot and would have to key in my 4 digit pin. The only way to do it is to turn off the Voiceover and get someone who can see to help me. However, when I use my bluetooth keyboard, it works okay. There are times that I do not bring along my keyboard, hence I would like to be able to use the screen keyboard as wel.. I look forward to some advice. Re: Something I just Learned With Skype and Growl
Hey Elena and all. Sorry I haven't posted any replies about this, I was sick pretty much all day but I'm better. This is odd that you can't get messages to read automatically. Perhaps I could be of more assistance if we made a Skype call to each other and then we can solve this little problem. Also, Mark, Growl uses the main system voice so if you wanted to make changes to the voice, whether you want to change rate and pitch or the person altogether, you would have to go into system prefs and change any preferences there. Finally, I noticed something odd in Skype 5.6. Yes, I do change the notification setting to use Growl, but I find that when I shut down the computer for the day and start it the next, the notification setting reverts back to using the built-in notification setting and then I have to set it back to using Growl again. So Elena, check if that setting does that for you too. But as I said, I'll be willing to help anyone get this Growl stuff going for them. My Skype name is bbstheblindrapper. Snip Also, Mark, Growl uses the main system voice so if you wanted to make changes to the voice, whether you want to change rate and pitch or the person altogether, you would have to go into system prefs and change any preferences there. /snip With all respect, please excuse me but the voice Growl uses, while it may be Alex, speaks with different rate and tone from my system voice, which is used for other self-voicing programs. If Growl is using the system voice, it's doing so without obeying the settings I changed in Preferences. That's my experience. Also, even when I check "Hide all notifications," in Growl, Skype will still tell me who comes on or off line, and announce events themselves, if not their text content; this is done with the system voice as I have pre-set it. Growl, when it is allow to speak all notifications, uses a much slower version. That's just my experience. Cursor in an e-mail
Hi, since two weeks or so I have an issue with Mail. Normally when opening an e-mail I can use arrow up or down to move in the e-mail text. That doesn't work anymore. When I press arrow down it just reads the first line and then nothing more. VO plus arrow keys still work but not just arrow keys. Quick Nav is off of course. That's quite annoying because I'm no longer able to select text in an e-mail to quote something. Has anyone an idea what's going on here and what todo?
