just thought this might interest some who own infovox ivox voices
I've had issues with the activation sometimes when upgrading or changing systems, cleaning up my permissions tables or other tasks. It seems as though infovox ivox 3 is about to come out which will resolve this issue. If it's a full version upgrade, there must be some goodies waiting :) Best regards, Yuma -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: Google Chrome, ChromeVox, and Apps
Hi all, I managed to get my chromevox installed and i tested it, and as is so common amongst us i will now give my thoughts, mostly complaints about it. I think Chromevox has potential. The navigation, as long as it's basic is quite nice. I put it through its paces on a swedish site to buy tickets for one of our railway companies, because it's quite a challenge with any screen reader. Among the pros are that you can as they put it "zoom in on things" by navigating by group, object, sentence, word etc. That is very cool. The first little oddity i found had to do with combo box navigation: I found that when i tried to navigate a combo box, nothing was spoken. Luckily i knew what was in the combo box, so when i typed something, like a number everything worked well. Now i come to the cons of this screen reader, and to not make the same mistakes as those who did the voiceover review some years back, i want to point out that these are my initial impressions, that i could be very wrong in my assumtions and that i really do want to be corrected if i am wrong indeed. The most problematic area in Chromevox as of now is the table navigation which in my, i repeat my opinion is clumcy especially if you like me have a keyboard with ctrl only on the left hand side and no insert whatsoever. To navigate through a table you have to press ctrl+alt+t and then another letter. The navigation options are quite logical, but as you have to use both hands when trying to find letters to press and as the ctrl key is only to the left and there's no way of putting Chromevox into what they referr to as "sticky mode", it gets awquard and time consuming. Another thing i hoped for but that doesn't seem to be there, is the possibility to change voices. It seems only to use the default system voice. Let's hope all this is addressed in an upcoming version, and as i said, if i have misunderstood anything of this, please let me know. I don't want to totally diss Chromevox yet, because i think it's got potential as i said, but for now i have inactivated the addon. /Krister 29 sep 2011 kl. 05:04 skrev Chris Blouch: > "Skype, IM, and other alerts/notifications will still work within > Chrome/ChromeVox, provided their enabled with whatever method." > > Interesting. money reader
Hi Guys. I was reluctant to comment about this because I hope I'm saying something useful to those of you out there who are reading money other than U.S. dollars. I say that because I don't have other types of money handy to check out. However, I decided to update the program, and here's what I discovered--comparing its performance to that it did before the update. Maybe this observation will help you guys since I used the program a lot before updating. First, I found that I needed to make sure I had the money close to the camera and held still. The program is slower than it was before, even on U.S. money. I had to wait about four or five seconds holding the money still and close to get it to work. Then, it worked just as well on the U.S. money as it did before. VoiceOver is doing the speaking now instead of the little soft voice that was there before. I think the slowness has to do with the program figuring out what kind of money you have. Re: How to use the Money Reader on I Phone?
Hi there. When you call up the program, do nothing. There are no choices, as far as I can see, to tell the program what kind of money you have. Also, be sure that you have not told your iPhone to mute itself with the switch. I did that once, and it doesn't speak. That may not matter, maybe, since VoiceOver is doing the talking now. But that was frustrating experience the time I had muted my phone and it wouldn't work. These days, hold the money fairly close to the iPhone camera and keep it still. Then wait about four seconds or so. As I said earlier, I don't have any UK money to check it out with, but it didn't give me any choices of what type of money after I did the update. Re: How to use the Money Reader on I Phone?
I've tried the Money Reader with euros, pounds and US dollars and it works fine for all of them. The only thing it didn't recognise was a Scottish pound note. 1 pound notes are not generally available, so this is no surprise. Also, it works whether VoiceOver is turned on or off. It uses a different voice, however, with VO off. I'm using an iPhone 4. Re: Hey, where did the downloads window go in safari?
No. It's all different now. You have to go to the search area in the address bar with control-option-f, then VO-right to get to the downloads button and press it. Apparently, it's a panel that attaches itself to whichever tab you're using. You can still use command-w to close it, though. Iomega StorCenter and Mac
Hi. I've got an Iomega StorCenter NAS disc to use with my Macs and PC. I've discovered that I can't move files and folders from my Mac to the disc - But I can copy them. I was able to move files and folders from my PC though. Is there some kind of settings somewhere I have to deal with? Hope someone can help me with that. Hi again. The other thing I did this morning was to put the money on my lap so that it was flat. It used to be that you could hold it almost any old way and it would work. Hello, I would never purchase a major apple product without the Apple Care Protection Plan. In numerous situations over the last several years, Apple has truly honored the Apple Care Protection Plan. For example, replacing an iMac, Replacing an iPod and a few other things. This is truly a case where purchasing insurance, Warrenty for your devices is really worth it in every respect. Re: Apple Care Protection
Hi, So if you need your Mac replaced, how much would you have to pay, since I assume it wouldn't be free? What if you need a new battery, how much cheaper is it with the applecare plan, as opposed to without it? I'm just wondering how much money this would actually save you, if you get any major discounts if some part of your computer were to break, like the battery, or if the whole machine needed replaced. Re: Iomega StorCenter and Mac
If you are asking why you can only copy aqnd not move between volumes, then yes, this is the way it works. Probably safer as well since you never know for sure that the copy is good until the end. At that point you should be left with your source files still selected so you could do a quick command-delete after the copy to remove them. Re: language rotter
Hi there, I think I got what you tried to do with changing language with activities. 1. go to vo u tility with ctrl option f8. 2. choose activities in the category table. 3. Find the add button and press it than type a title for your activity say Turkish for example.. 4. Check the voices checkbox to indicate you want to add voice settings to this activity. 5. Find the default voice popup menu and open it and choose the desired voice e.g. Turkish. 6. Press close button and close the vo utility. Now if you press vo plus x you will see the activity and can select it. Pressing vo x twice will take you back to the last used activity. Hope this helped. I have nothing but good things to say about Apple Care. I usually didn't get it for desktop models but always on laptops and it has been worth it. My wife's MacBook had two hardware failures and both were handled without argument and as quickly as possible including direct next day FedX of a box to and from two locations to make the repair happen. Only way it could have been made better would be to either never have a failure (low probability in today's modern machines) or lower the price on AppleCare. Everything else about it was top notch. Re: Apple Care Protection
Hello, In the case of the iMac replacement, it was because of numerous problems with getting the machine repaired in the first place. Usually, it is only the cost of the Apple Care Protection Plan itself. For example, when the iPod Touch was replaced, I didn't pay anything further than the $59 or so for the Apple Care. problems with the new webkit updates
ok, I seem to be having some problems with the new webkit. since 4 days ago, I have been unable to enter text in the URL bar, google search box and any webforms that are presented. I have tried interacting with the text boxes and even turned off VO and tried to type in the blind. no such looks as there doesn't appear to be any input being accepted. I even made a screen capture of the problem. I just need to know where to send it. -Eric -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. For those who use two or more languages
Hello, I suspect that many new Mac users who work in more than one language have become frustrated by the fact that changing the voice means that menu items are read badly. Here's what to do to avoid this. • Open VoiceOver Utility (VO-F8); • Select the Speech category; • Navigate right through all the Pitch, Volume, etc until you find Additional Voice Options and check it; • Now you'll find more categories for speech below Default Voice; • Set Content to Default voice, then set all the other options to a voice or voices in the system language. Now, when you change the language with the Speech Attribute Rotor, the language in which the text is read will change, but menus will be read in your system language. Re: Extracting audio from DVD's via the Mac.
Hi. Here is my current solution for extracting audio from DVDs. It may not be the best way to go, and I would of course love to hear how others are doing it. I first use Ripit to copy the contents of a dvd to my hard drive. I then use dvd remaster pro to extract all the audio tracks. These files are in ac3 format. Finally I use toonsify to convert those ac3 files in to either mp3 or m4a, depending on what I need. HTH. Re: Apple Care Protection
Hi Guys. Since I'm so new to the Mac, I was reluctant to say anything about this. However, I was everlastingly glad I had Apple Care on my iPhone. I was out of town in Reno this summer when my iPhone decided to stop talking. I had to go to the only store in town because the lady on Apple Care told me I might have to replace or restore my phone. As it turned out, the Apple rep person fixed it in about a minute. The problem was that I couldn't read the screen, of course, and the sighted girl helping me talk to the Apple lady on the phone didn't know much more than me. It was probably a completely different app, cuz the mac version of this one was only released this year. Hi, Whenever I open it, it always says it has no windows, is that because there's no dvd in the drive? Also, I bought the windows version way back in 2009, do you know if my code will still work for the mac version? I hope that last question isn't off-topic, but I'm appologizing now just in case. RE: Extracting audio from DVD's via the Mac.
Hi, I get that as well, I usually have to fiddle around with the app to get that screen to go away. I believe that's the license screen, but I haven't gotten anyone sighted to look at it. Once you get passed that screen, the app is fully accessible. As far as the license code working cross-platform, they changed the scheme for licensing in version 6.0. -Original Message- From: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com [mailto:macvisionaries@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Darcy Burnard Sent: Thursday, September 29, 2011 8:10 PM To: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Extracting audio from DVD's via the Mac. Re: countdown timer
I don't know why it wouldn't show up in the search results. Try searching for Howler Timer instead of just Howler. Alternatively, you could do what I did when I was first looking and search for countdown timer. When I did that, Howler was one of the first results that came up. question about lion
I bought lion just now. It says it's installing, but it's dimmed. What do I need to do? Do I just wait for it to complete? Thanks. Hi Steph, That's right. Lion takes a while for it to complete. Re: countdown timer
Two things I can think of. It may only be available in certain countries. Another possibility, and don't take offense if this seems stupid, but are you using the Mac App Store built into later versions of OSX (Snow Leopard and Lion?) It is *not* in the ITunes store. Re: For those who use two or more languages
I've always wanted to have VoiceOver use English when reading elements on a webpage such as headings, edit text, lists, but use the appropriate language for the main content. This method is somewhat successful. I've been able to get the content of a Mandarin website to read using the Mandarin voice. I was able to get Alex to read things such as headings, buttons, and edit text. But for some reason, VoiceOver wants the Mandarin voice to read the beginning and end messages of a list. Very strange. Re: For those who use two or more languages
hello thanks for your help. it's very useful. when I read my emails, I have both Turkish and English, it reads turkish mails with alex although I change it to Turkish as you described...what should I do? - Original Message - From: "Anne Robertson" To: Sent: Thursday, September 29, 2011 11:59 PM Subject: For those who use two or more languages Hello, I suspect that many new Mac users who work in more than one language have become frustrated by the fact that changing the voice means that menu items are read badly.
