drag-and-drop with non-ascii characters

2005-09-11 Thread Pol

Hi,

I was not able to copy a file by drag and drop from konqueror into the
lyx editor, since the non-ascii character in the file name (an accented
letter, in my case) is erased during the procedure.

Is it possible to fix that?

I do not know if it is a lyx or kde related issue, so i am sending to
both discussion forums.

thank you

Thank you Roy (and Peter, for the other reply) - I am sorry my
description was incomplete. I was referring to konqueror as file manager
(a role in which i believe it is unparalled as far as functionality and
stability is concerned; i am very satisfied with it), not as web browser.

Probably Angus has spotted the issue, due to different font encodings

popups stopping lyx (latex export)

2006-05-12 Thread Pol
As i try to export my doc as latex, a popup ask me if i want to
overwrite pictures (eps format, in my case). Replying 'overwrite all'
lead to correct completion, but why should pictures be re-created?

When the 'document->settings' panel is open, the above popup cannot be
started. As a result, no latex export is produced, with non
notification. I suspect it is a more general misbehaviour, certain popup
windows blocking lyx.
Can anybody confirm such behaviour?

Currently the standard article class is used, together with suitable
template documents.
It is understood the Lyx is only an interface to TeX, but, as you also
remarked, TeX/Latex is too difficult for a student to learn (and probably
not really useful, i would add).
Yet LyX seems to be the only easy, graphical way to introduce students to

focus on _explaining what they have understood_ about a given subject,
providing material for other students to use.

auto indenting

E.g., as a new line is entered at the second level 'itemize' environment,

The same for 'standard' environment: Entering new line at a nested level
brings you back to the first level, while i would expect a new line at the

What is mostly annoying is that, adding a new line in the middle of an

You should add a footer or header, by proper commands in the
documents->settings->Latex preamble, including the instruction \jobname
The you have to switch to document->settings->page layout->'fancy'

Here included an example of footer and header i often use. Note that here
also page numbers are printed out,

By 'alternative language' i understood as second vocabulary that the
spellchecker use, if no entries in the default vocabulary matches the
current word. I see no reason for the spellchecker does not check any
words, most of them belonging to the default language,

Moreover, i have never explicitly loaded any vocabulary. I suppose that
has been done automatically, after the language name has been
entered. Shouldn't be the same, when entering the name of the
alternative language?

Language is set to 'predefined' (that is italian) and spellchecker is
hunspell (also tried enchant).
Alternative language that i have tried is english

Spellchecker works fine, provided that no alternative language has

tikz pictures rendering

2018-10-28 Thread Pol
Hi all,
I don't know if this a lyx software issue or a tikz programming issue (i
am
rather new to tikz)

I would like to lower a bit the circle in the 'in line' command:

 \tikz \draw (0,-9pt) circle (4pt);

so that the circle appear shifted a little lower, with respect to the text
line it is in.
inserting the latex command:

\tikz \draw (0,-9pt) circle (4pt);

obtains:
1 - the picture, on the lyx display, effectively shifted downward, but
its lower part has been cut away. I would have a full circle in the text
line.

2 - The picture appears unmoved, in the pdf rendering

Any comments will be appreciated

I have to correct my observations here (probably my tikz command, a
few hours ago, was not the same; not sure):
- both normal position circle and the shifted one, have been cut off,
as displayed by LyX.
- no cut off, no shift for both normal position circle and the shifted

Yes, a set of specific words to be fixed by rearranging letters.
E.g. writing quickly it often happens to write 'informazioen' rather than
' informazione'.
Sometimes that word appears correctly on the screen, sometimes it is
distorted like that, as an anagram of the right word.
Is that mistake a matter of 'learning'? You mean that i should gain a
better motor control of my fingers' movements?
My guess is that my mind form the mispelled word, while quickly
writing, because 'informazioen' and ' informazione' are the same, in
my mind.
There would be much to say about the meaning of 'learning', but this is
not the right place to discuss about that. I do not know which aspects
of learning would be involved here, but i am puzzled about how to
improve my writing by learning.
Anyway, that kind of mispelling happens often. Should i spend years to
learn, hoping ti improve my typewriting ability?
Rather, it would be very convenient to see that kind of mistakes
instantly corrected. Don't you agree?

mangled labels in 1.2.1

Labels at equation lines are mangled using lyx 1.2.1
If labels are made by two or more items, they get collapsed in a single string,

Labels containig underscore, such as a_b, are added by extra braces.
Many cross-references are lost.

Yes, they are all lyx documents.
My trick is to collect most of math questions in one file, so as to be able

A different solution would be to store each math question or expression in
