Bertrand (an ex mentor of our project) usually knows what he talking about. I
have seen this optional ve mandatory mentioned a few times elsewhere as well,
but was unable to find a clear definition / example in the mailing list
archives.

I know what a Category B licences is, a simple link to the Apache docs would of
sufficed for other people rather than copying the whole text. It's nice to try
and keep emails short.

> Also, note that the main SDK has a required Category B binary dependency on
> the OSMF.swc.

While we've stated osmf as required leaving it out just breaks the spark video
player so it could possibly be considered optional. I don't know what the
answer is here or understand the mandatory/optional distinction which is why I
asked.

Also on email etiquette it would be good if people refrain from formatting
emails with very short line lengths it makes them hard to read. (In this case
your reply didn't fit on a single screen). All modern email clients support
line wrapping / resizable windows and I think we're past the days of reading
email in a 80x25 terminal window :-)

Thanks,
Justin

Re: Translation needed

2014-10-24 Thread Alex Harui
I’m done for tonight, but if some committer does have time and can post
the properties file to flex.a.o in the installer/properties and
installer/properties/sdk folder, then Maxim or anyone running the Russian
locale should be able to fire up the current installer and see the
contribution and iterate if needed.

I think it has to be up there twice right now because some older scripts
use installer/properties but newer scripts look in sdk since flexjs
scripts look for their properties in the flexjs folder.

Thanks Maxim!

Technically, it is my understanding that the current build scripts in the
source package require the OSMF.swc because the Video components that
reference OSMF are in the Spark.swc. but I agree that the binary package
does not require it.

The inclusion of OSMF was reviewed and approved by the mentors including
Bertrand, so I’m confident we are handling this correctly.

Re: Convenience Binary Policy

2014-10-24 Thread Harbs
It was not Bertrand that said that. It was Brane.

It was a question which I answered by giving a background on JBurg. Case closed.

I understood the question as Alex did that he was confused on how we could be
compiling Cat B in our distributed binaries (which is not the case).

There are no issues with having an EXTERNAL dependency any more than there’s a
concern of having a dependency on an operating system.

Let’s please not make issues where none exist.

Unless it's Category X [1], that's clear at least. Although there are some

My reading is that even category x is okay as long as it’s not distributed by
Apache, but that’s an academic point right now. If we ever have to deal with
category x, we can discuss it. (There’s also the subject of different
classifications of dependencies: dependencies compiled into the binary, compile
time dependencies not compiled in and runtime dependencies. But this is all
academic right now...)

Scroller optimization

2014-10-24 Thread after24
Hello,

I have worked on a way to optimize the scroller component on mobile..
It's very promising, especially for very complex views, but there is a major
drawback though.

Here is how it works :

The scroller component has a new boolean property called cacheViewport :

When this property is set to true, a bitmap version of the viewport is
captured in a ViewportCache component which inherits from
SpriteVisualElement and implements IViewport.
Instead of using the scrollRect property of the viewport, the ViewportCache
performs the scrolling of the bitmap version of the viewport using the
blitting technique which is way much faster.

When the user start to scroll, the actual viewport is removed (using
removeElement) and replaced by the ViewportCache component.
When the scroll is complete, the ViewportCache is removed (using
removeElement) and replaced by the actual viewport.
When the user interacts with the viewport content, the ViewportCache has a
system that redraws the regions that are likely to have changed during those
interactions.

The weakness of this method is that the viewport must be added to the
display list after each scrolling operation : this process can be very long
(500-1000 ms) for very complex views.

The idea to solve this problem would be to add the actual viewport back only
when the user interacts with its content.

I found out a way to detect this type of interaction for example the user
clic the bitmap version of a ToggleButton on the ViewportCache, but I can
not reflect this interaction on the actual viewport i.e. the actual
ToggleButton should be toggled, when it’s added back to the display list.

Do you think it's feasible ? anyone has an idea ?

It's for the word 'BACK'. If you could just post with the 'proper' translation

Here's what I have.

french - arrière / retour

korean - 다시

nederlands - terug

deutsch - zurück

portuguese - de volta / retorno / avesso

Hi,

About the Chinese translation of "BACK":

"后面" means the back side of something, or it means later on.

So if your "BACK" is meant to the action of "GO BACK", you should use "后退" for
ZH_CN, and "後退" for ZH_TW.

I think it has to be up there twice right now because some older scripts use

The context is to "go back" or "previous".
Like to go back to the previous step or screen.

What do you mean by "the blitting technique"? Could you explain it in detail?

>When the user start to scroll, the actual viewport is removed (using
>removeElement) and replaced by the ViewportCache component.
>When the scroll is complete, the ViewportCache is removed (using
>removeElement) and replaced by the actual viewport.
I would rather create a subclass of Group named "CachableGroup", define two
properties for CacheableGroup: viewport:IViewport (default property) and
viewportCache:IViewportCache, then set Scroller.viewport to CacheableGroup.
The viewport property is like the actual viewport of yours, and I also would
rather set the viewport or the viewportCache's visible to false than using
removeElement() when you don't need one of them.
Cuz if you need to show one of them (the viewport or the viewportCache) back
again, the addElement() method will have to take some time to render it, it's
much slower than setting its visible from false to true.

>I found out a way to detect this type of interaction for example the user

I would recommend that you listen the
TouchInteractionEvent.TOUCH_INTERACTION_START event on Scroller. Usually the
Scroller instance itself does not dispatch this event, the viewport's sub
component (or sub sub sub component) dispatches this event when the scrolling
has just started. So when TouchInteractionEvent.TOUCH_INTERACTION_START
happened, you can draw the viewport to viewportCache, then set the viewport's
visible to false, and set viewportCache's visible to true. You should also
listen TouchInteractionEvent.TOUCH_INTERACTION_END event on Scroller, when it
happens, set viewportCache's visible to false, and the viewport's visible to
true.

>Do you think it's feasible? anyone has an idea?
I think it's feasible, but this approach has the following drawbacks:

1. You will need to use the BitmapData.draw() to create a bitmap version of the
viewport, the total number of pixels of a BitmapData cannot exceed 16,777,215
pixels, although it's large enough, it has its limit.

2. If a BitmapData's size is very big (on Retina Display big size content is
very common), it will consume a lot system memory, which could potentially
crash the application on mobile device, or decrease the overall performance.

Well, I think it's still worth a shot, hope what I said could help you somehow
: )

Re: [3/3] git commit: [flex-sdk] [refs/heads/develop] - Increment and counterpart don't work with FlexJS '_get()' and '_set()'

2014-10-24 Thread Erik de Bruin
It’s not on my list.

For VF2JS I’ll be using the more modern (but not backwards compatible)
approach of “Object.defineProperty” to create a ‘real’ properties with
‘get’ and ‘set’ methods. That will bring JS up to speed with AS and will
prevent this (and many other) types of incompatibilities when cross
compiling.

[FlexJS] Optimized Charts

2014-10-24 Thread Peter Ent
Hi,

I've just committed code that enables charts to be drawn a little more
efficiently. Right now each chart itemRenderer creates an element in the
display list (or HTML DOM). The optimized version uses the FlexJS
core.graphics.GraphicsContainer as a canvas and each itemRenderer draws its
shape into that. A regular bar chart might create 50 display list elements and
the optimized version would only create 50 shapes (or ).

I will create an example to illustrate the difference.

At this point we could use some feedback and advice. I have only created simple
graphics for the chart axes and use UILabel for the labels on the tick marks. I
am wondering if the display list/DOM structure of chart should be changed to
allow better use of CSS to style the elements. At this point CSS has little
effect; I wanted to get the functionality done first.

Today's basic Chart structure looks like this (these are not actual MXML or
HTML element names, just pseudo elements for illustration).

  ...

tick mark label

Note that everything is pretty much a sibling and are children of the main
chart element.

First off, does anyone know if SVG text elements can be styled with CSS? If so,
I could convert the UILabel's to SVG on the JavaScript side.

Secondly, would it be helpful to have more structure? For instance, .., so that CSS could be used to target
specific elements?

Thanks,

Peter Ent

You did vote for it but only PMC members votes are binding on releases. Thanks

You are free to use RC1 in your project or wait a few days until we get the

This one worries me. I should have left a comment on it, but the second
“AntClasses” force-links all of the ant task handlers into the app. I’m
not sure I’ve listed them any other way that would link them in. Did an
ant_on_air install actually work after this change? I think you have to
try 4.13 or FlexJS as all older SDKs are not using ant_on_air right now.

Re: Translation needed

2014-10-24 Thread Alex Harui
Hi Maxim,

I haven’t executed the pull request (I still have to learn how to do it at
Apache), but I grabbed your translations and put them on the web server so
you can try using the installer to see how it looks live and make any
further adjustments.

It might take a few hours for the change to propagate to where you are,
but the dropdown at the upper right should include the word “Russian”.
Let us know if there is some other word we should use in the dropdown.

Thanks,
