Re: [AFMUG] OT shall we start a pool

2020-03-01 Thread Steve Jones
The cdc does the majority of the testing... that is the federal response.
Thats been available. Illinois has turned up a few labs capable of teating
the samples. There arent "test kits". State level testing is a state
responsibility, not federal. So yes, washington state did fuck this up
willfully.

Specific testing aside, states have been supposed to be practicing response
for decades. Containment protocols arent specific to this disease,
literally the same as flu response. The federal government can put out all
the guidance you can dream of, but if the local providers dont do it, its
useless.
My wife works at a hospital and was pissed as she walked down the iso
hallway yesterday and all the doors were opened. You going to blame trump
for that too?
She fails her fit test every year for the mask because of her face shape,
as does roughly 25 percent of the country. Is that a federal responsibility
too? Should the fed come in and reshape faces so everyones n95 mask
actually works?
State departments of public health are supposed to maintain an active list
of potential oveflow and quarantine facilities, thats a requirement of some
of the disaster response funding they recieve. Thats been in play for over
20 years that im personally aware of.
If the existing systems that were designed and implemented specifically for
prepared response to boilogics, we would have virtually zero risk of a
pandemic ever going beyond the nusiance stage.

There is supposed to be about 90+ labs in the US ready to do the test on
Monday.
I wonder how many false positives these tests kick out.
Some of the tests are based on PCR so they should be pretty good.

2020-03-01 Thread Ken Hohhof
Steve, you must not even had read the article, to say it’s a prime example of a
hoax. It has extensive direct quotes from federal and state government
officials, virtually all the information in the article is from credible
government sources. Not even summarized or paraphrased, it consists mostly of
direct quotes.

I don’t see how this is an example of the media “spewing” false information.

And yes it’s a lab test, but now many state and local labs will be able to do
the tests. Nobody is saying it’s an instant on-the-spot test, like a
breathalyzer or the 5-minute rapid strep test. Even with strep, if the rapid
test is positive, the doctor sends a sample to the lab for overnight testing.

The cdc does the majority of the testing... that is the federal

capable of teating the samples. There arent "test kits". State level
testing is a state responsibility, not federal. So yes, washington

Also the article stated that States were prohibited from the CDC from
more widespread testing. THAT is a direct cause and effect from the
federal government. Steve you have always come across as the wacky guy

paraphrased, it consists mostly of direct quotes.

I don’t see how this is an example of the media “spewing” false information.

And yes it’s a lab test, but now many state and local labs will be able
to do the tests. Nobody is saying it’s an instant on-the-spot test,
like a breathalyzer or the 5-minute rapid strep test. Even with strep,
if the rapid test is positive, the doctor sends a sample to the lab for
overnight testing.

Im still waiting for my tool from wuhan. Im going to do a video licking it.
But in all seriousness, it will likely kill me, as will influenza. Im a 30
plus year smoker with COPD. Flu almost took me out last year. Ill try to
type something up for you though.
Rwmember swine flu, bigger hype, bigger death toll. My kids both got it. Me
and the doctor both laughed about the hype. The only impact in the real
world was i had an install at a pig farm. I had to call them ahead of time
to let them know i was exposed to see if they wanted me to reschedule. They
werent morons and didnt buy the media hype either, so i installed them that
day.

Re: [AFMUG] OT: Corona-fu

2020-03-01 Thread Mark - Myakka Technologies
Title: Re: [AFMUG] OT: Corona-fu

There are only a few things we know for sure.

1. It is already in the US
2. More people in the US will get it
3. More people in the US will die.

Anything other than this is pure speculation at this point.  We don't know anything about this virus.  Most everything I hear or read about this virus starts off with the equivalent of "WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE".  But if you bother to listen or read the article, it always has "may" or "some experts".  The current official incubation period is 2-14 days, but hey lets just report 14 days and base all our models on this and report it as the most likely scenario.  We don't know how long it lives on surfaces.  We don't know how it reacts to UV light.  We don't know how it will do in warm/humid conditions.

My opinion (just as valid as anyone else's),  This virus has been in the states before the first reported case.  People have had it and recovered thinking it was just the flu. Not everyone exposed is going to get it.  Not everyone who gets it is going to need to be hospitalized.  Not everyone who gets hospitalized will die.

The media once again is doing us a huge dis-service. They are hyping this thing  way out of proportion.  Was at Wal-mart yesterday. Every can of Lysol or Lysol type of product was gone.  Every package of disinfectant wipes were gone.  Every bottle of any sized hand sanitizer, gone.  Crazy.  The closest reported "maybe" case is over 1300 miles away.  God forbid we get a reported case in Florida, what will happen then?  Going to start burning and looting?

Matt,

There will be more positive results.  That's a given.  No one should be surprised about that.  That should be expected and should be common knowledge.

However, the media will act surprised.  We will have news alerts.  We will have more "experts" talking about on TV. If we are lucky we may even get a live feed of people yelling and screaming waving their arms in the air while running in circles.

I humbly disagree.

I’ve been tracking this thing in China since it started in late December.

I kept asking myself “why is the media NOT reporting on this? They like to

Must be a Florida thing, or a Walmart thing. I have not seen news reports
anything close to “we are all going to die”.

And I just stopped at the grocery store, no signs at all of people buying up
all the Lysol and Purell. I did buy a couple of the pump bottles of foaming
hand soap we like, but the shelf was full. News reports have said wash your
hands and that it’s good advice for seasonal flu as well, I don’t think that’s
doomsday advice.

I have not checked Walmart, maybe things are all crazy there (as usual).
Actually I have to admit that I recently discovered the steaks from Walmart are
actually pretty good, they were branded Tyson Fresh Meats.

2020-03-01 Thread Ken Hohhof
OK, maybe this is hysterical reporting (it’s from Washington Post after all),
but sounds kind of science-y.

The novel coronavirus has probably been spreading undetected for about six
weeks in Washington state, where the first U.S. death was reported this
weekend. A genetic analysis suggests that the cases are linked through
community transmission and that this has been going on for weeks, with hundreds
of infections likely in the state.

Ken,

Most likely a Florida thing.  We are hoarders by nature.  Think it is the Hurricane effect.  Once we are in the 5 day cone of death a destruction we have to go out and buy all the water and bread we can get our hands on.  I guess this is one reason the media stuff and people in general drive me crazy .  Everything seems to have to be a disaster.  Just last week USA Today headline "Chicago could see biggest snow of the season as winter storm targets Midwest, Northeast".  Is 6" of snow in Chicago really worth that headline?

Once saw a guy returning at least 10 cases of water a few days after a Hurricane missed us.  Had to buy all those cases of water, so no one else could get any.  Customer service rep told me company policy is to pour them down the drain if they are returned.  Store doesn't want the liability.

The novel coronavirus has probably been spreading undetected for about six weeks in Washington state, where the first U.S. death was reported this weekend. A genetic analysis suggests that the cases are linked through community transmission and that this has been going on for weeks, with hundreds of infections likely in the state.

i never understood it, on the right, we tend to be the most prepared. most
of the die hard preppers are right minded. we tend to be the most capable
of utilizing primal tools and food/water sources. if it goes boogity, we
have the best firepower and ammunition and training. so i never understood
why people on the right get very nervous about these things. a lot like
devout christians worying about end times and rapture.

Title: Re: [AFMUG] OT: Corona-fu

Well, Well, Well, here we go.

"One patient is an adult in Manatee County. According to the Department of Health, the patient does not have a travel history to countries identified for restricted travel by the CDC. The patient is being treated at Doctors Hospital in Sarasota."

That's my county and I just drove past that hospital this afternoon. Now this is a "presumptive" that hasn't been confirmed by the CDC yet, but what the hell lets just call it our first case.

The novel coronavirus has probably been spreading undetected for about six weeks in Washington state, where the first U.S. death was reported this weekend. A genetic analysis suggests that the cases are linked through community transmission and that this has been going on for weeks, with hundreds of infections likely in the state.

Going to start burning and looting?

there have been hundreds of presumptives. are they all first case? does
suck, the wifes c section is on the 20th, thats 3 days in a petri dish. if
we get a case in that hospital, all bets are off. luckily, a c section is
12 weeks off work, so kung flu will be gone by the time she goes back.
media needs to quit reporting presumptive cases. sarasota is where my
brother lived before he died, big meth community there, you do not want
those guys getting it
