For me it's crucial to have the two rings in front, precisely because it limits the movement/position of the rear wheel especially when flipping the wheel to run the 22t cog, so you have a net change of 2 teeth or 1/4" as opposed to 8 teeth and a full 1", not to mention of course that the gearing change is quite a bit more noticeable.
