Congratulations! The QB is a great bike. It is set up to be able to handle an 8-tooth difference, but you will need to have the wheel far forward in the 40x18 to do that. With 28 or 33 mm tires, it works fine. Mine has 40mm tires, and now the wheel won't go far enough forward to cope with an 8-tooth difference. Mine currently has a 40x17 and a 32x22 (3-tooth difference) and that works fine. I've never measured inches, so I can't answer that.
