I too stopped selling Acer after problems with a number of their laptops. One of my clients who pays me maintenance, had problems but still buys them as they are cheaper and, they say, any make doesn't last long when they are connected to Tractors in dusty fields. I refuse to give them first call with any faults referring them to Acer. They now say the Technical support is much better so perhaps a leopard can change its spots. However in the past I have sold a number of Acer Monitors all of which have problems. I also get a number of Acer products which come in via a support service called FixItLocal to which I belong. The main problem is the inverters which are available and can be fitted easily. The other problem is not repairable. During the summer we get a little black insect which is know as a storm fly in Lincolnshire. They swarm and get everywhere even behind the Monitor screens where they die and are visible when the monitor is on. Acer refuse to repair even under warranty where most other manufacturers who very really get the problem agree to change. I have a client in Rutland who normally purchases all his Computers from me. While I was away on holiday two years ago he purchase 6 Acer systems at what seemed a good price. We had continual problems with them with USB devices which Acer were unable to sort out. Then an Air conditioner need to be repaired in one of the Offices and when the Electrician came to repair it he somehow blew the power, all 6 Acres stopped working with smells of burning. My computers all carried on working. They went back to Acer who said they weren't worth repairing and quite rightly were not under warranty. When they came back I fitted new power supplies and the client sold them on Ebay. All in all I wouldn't recommend Acer. Finally I have always recommended Seagate for Hard disk drives but looking on the Internet I find other people with nothing good to say about them, so different people have different experiences, perhaps we are all right.

Hale Sent: 21 April 2009 12:31 To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [NF] Acer vs AVG I LOVE Acer LCD monitors (3 year warranty from the manufacturer), and have a client (medical clinic) who uses nothing but Acer brand PCs. The one time I had to call tech support re: a monitor that did fail resulted in a very positive experience. I was taken care of promptly.
