NTL broadband does not require configuration of the router since it's not a phone line. Others (using a phone line) will. Usually you just type http://192.168.2.1 <http://192.168.2.1/> in to your web browser, where you put in your information ( in to a web page. ) Just the user name and password, and possibly the line-type. Nothing else is required, not mail server settings. The most popular anti-virus on linux is clam antivirus ( clamav - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clam_AV ). I would expect it to be in ubuntu's aptitude package manager. There is a firewall in ubuntu and it is installed by default in the live cd . There are not alternative firewalls since there is one that is part of the base of linux. Intel make graphics built in to the computer board, so it is not necessary to have to have ATI graphics. From what I gather it may have been a driver issue and the fact that Tiscali was still refusing to acknowledge Linux. Some people were saying they overcame the problem by using a Router instead of Tiscali's modem. Does that problem still exist? If so, can anyone recommend a Linux compatible Router to be used with ISP Tiscali please? 2. Hardware / Graphics card: ATI Radeon HD3200 1GB hyper, will it provide maximum resolution in Linux? Any known problems? Any other advice will be gratefully received. Meanwhile I will be copying my MS docs into open-office and back them up, which will take me a few weeks. So be patent whilst I do my prep work for the switch-over.
