We just closed a long and "interesting" case with Sun on this. You really only need the 1.27 Firmware and 6.26 MPTBIOS to solve the problems, specifically with the Sun FRU "B2" card. Note, cards from LSI are shipping the B3 card, and they work without any real issues.
We've successfully (and currently run in production) x4240's with 2x32G Intel SSDs and 2x80G Intel (MLC) SSDs with great success...very few resets (1 a day) and great throughput. Good luck.
