I'm not sure of the 14-drive limit, sounds bogus to me and doesn't jive with the X4240 Server Architecture docs http://www.sun.com/offers/details/X4x40_Arch.html IMHO, Sun sells the Adaptec card because uses an Intel RAID controller. So you have a choice, Intel RAID controllers with battery-backed RAM or LSI RAID controllers without battery-backed RAM.
