There really is quite a strong divide between LR and PS. For my level of
photography the cost is a consideration. The bottom line - even if I was
fixed on having PS - is that LR is the fraction of the price of a genuine
copy of PS6. Despite living in a capital city, my internet connection is not
100% reliable, and in an ideal world, I'd have a laptop to work on with the
software installed where I didn't have to worry about internet at all.

You might look at Photoshop Elements. I'm pretty sure that's still
available as stand alone software & newer versions may have enough
Photoshop capability to do what you need to do.

I think more recent versions have layers (adjustment, fill, blend & masks)
