It makes sense for the long zoom range P&S cameras to use
passive AF, it makes more sense (and I know one of the camera
makers has done it) to utilize both technologies. It seems to me
that where the passive AF falls down, the situation is almost
always prime conditions for active AF, such as dim rooms with
fairly close distances from camera to subject.
