I thought this was the definition of passive - measuring focus through
the lens?  Surely the more light coming through the lens the easier the
system works.  Hence AF often does not work above F8 etc...

What I wanted to ask was - what does have lens's max. aperture (on P&S)
to do
with ability to focus ? Do these P&S have focal plane shutter
(to allow TTL AF, be it active or passive) ????
