There are major problems with power in The Netherlands, and it is really not easy if possible at all to increase the amount of electricity if that was not contracted before. Pricing looks quite normal for an overloaded grid and datacenter. Every datacenter has 3 phase power available, that really is common in The Netherlands. There is a stop for companies (and even hospitals and schools) to extend the power requirements, the waiting list is long. It is mainly the national grid that is at peak capacity and is awaiting extension.

Regards,

Erik (living in The Netherlands but not using a datacenter anymore)

Yea, 0.15-30EUR is definitely higher than the US average, much higher than what
we pay.

Out here, colo spaces tend to charge ~1.5-2x the utility rate in the quote.
Mainly to factor in cooling, depending on their PUE.

Based on cost of power in the EU, the monthly seems fine, but the install cost
seems high. It seems like that facility doesn't have the power available, or
doesn't have 3 phase and wants you to foot the cost.

I would shop, there's probably a space that has the power and delivery ready
and available.

The average energy price in Europe is actually 0.15-0.30€ / Kwh.

Please don't forget that this price is very high because USA has
destroyed our gaz pipelane NORD-Stream-2 to Russia in 2022.
Before that, the price of energy was aroung 0.06-0.09€/Kwh.

Thanks USA.

I don't understand how people stay in business paying $0.15/kWh.
That's crazy.

Where are you seeing that kind of pricing? The utility cost would
have to be sub $0.15/kWh to even pay the bill with 20kW, ignoring any
cooling.

Considering a full cabinet with 20kW in the US costs under $2k total
I would say so.

Yea, looks like whoever did that quote does not really want the
business and is pricing it as such

So they have a charge just to have the capacity present of 7000
euros/month and then .278 euros per KWh on top of that?

I wish I could get away with charging that.

Subject COLO space in EU

Hi all,

Looking for colo space in Amsterdam, is it common to have to
pay for phase3 power busbar and busbar, power supply, and tap
off? Total costs for adding 3 phase plus testing etc .....
136.000 Euros for NRCs and the following MRC:

The Service Fee for a 20kW deployment would be €350/kW/month,
so €7,000 per month in total based on a 36 month term and 3%
annual indexation

·Electricity consumption will be measured and invoiced monthly
in arrears at €0.278 per kWh (2024 pricing)

Mike
