Well, Linux is just a kernel, there's nothing to argue about. Mutt is MUA, not a framework for MUA/NNTPUA/whatever-you-like. Hope you get it. On the other hand, both are free as in free speech, so you are obviously free to tailor them to your liking, producing Linux-as-a-system, or mutt-as-a-framework.
