So getting, compiling and testing a new kernel is definitely the last thing on my mind. I just don't have time for that. And Debian 4.0 probably will not go after kernel 2.6.18 (currently 2.6.18-5-686 is the default kernel for Debian). Also, ICH5 is not a recent chipset, so I don't think someone is still developing drivers for it. This is the default lavrec behaviour, and I never changed it. Anyway I checked it out, nothing has changed. It could just be that my integrated sound card has something wrong.
