Actually, I have some other problems that I think are all related. I tried to record audio with arecord using the on-board ICH5 sound card, or whatever it is, that thing driven by snd-intel-8x0, the same as Janos, I guess. Well, the good news are that arecord works perfectly after lowering the "Capture" control, which is not Line-in, nor anything that matches a jack on the rear panel: it's just a control named "Capture" by gnome-sound-control and by amixer. Unfortunately, lavrec still records audio terribly. Also, lavplay still issues the usual "mapping" error. BTW, lavrec only works with -U option: without it, it issues the same "mapping" error as lavplay does. Following some advices on debian-user and debian-it (I thought it was a sound-card problem or an alsa problem), I tried to tell lavrec to use a different device instead of dsp, but all my attempts to set LAV_AUDIO_DEV failed. I tried with /dev/audio, /dev/dsp1, /dev/audio1, but without success. I hope this could be useful.
