Getting the kernel driver shouln'd be a problem with Ronald's
instructions.

The BUZ has troubles recording from a VCR, the other zorand based cards
work well with VCR's. There are some mainboards that make troubles too.
And in the beginning it is always good avoid prossible error sources.

The older the tape the worse. And if the tape wasn't recorded on the
same VCR that can also caus problems. If you have a bad VCR quality than
y4mdenoise it the thing you want to use for improving the quality after
recording.

Depending on your sound card (no support for mmap recording) you might
also have to add the -U/--use-read option, else is lookes ok.

If you have problems recording with sound it is a good test to record
without sound (-a 0) to see if the sound card is making any problems.
