The machine in question is a RedHat9 box with a clean 2.4.29 kernel. I am not sure what diagnostic information would be useful here, so I'm going to avoid posting the output of /proc/pci, lsmod, etc.
If you use a 2.4.x kernel you should use the zoran driver from CVS. The
zoran driver 0.9.4 you get from the download area is to old for that.
Or at least there are some problems fixed in the current CVS for the
DC30.
A simpler soultion for that would be if you can use a 2.6.x kernel
because the the DC30 driver is working better.
I'd rather not switch to a 2.6.x kernel at the moment. Are there instructions somewhere for how to get the CVS version?
VHS isn't the best source. If you have some other source like a TV
signal, that is a much more stable source. I guess DVD is also better
than VHS (VCR).
VCR hav the problem that the timing of the signal is not to stable. That
doesn't matter much for TV but the video decoder unsed on the cards,
they don't like unstable sources. The DC30 should be able to show the
VCR video and record it. For the first tests a more stable video source
is better.
But that still begs the question why the bt848 card works fine and the DC30 doesn't... I'll try a different source, just in case.
One thing that I noticed with the bt848 card is that I get MUCH better capture frame rates on a clear tape than when capturing from an old worn out tape. I guess that's because fuzzy, noisy signal is more difficult to compress (more random). Anyway, I digress...
BTW: What lavrec command do you use ?
From memory:
lavrec --verbose 2 \ --format a \ --input p \ --decimation 2 \ --quality 50 \ --stereo \ test3.avi
BTW2: A good start, for reading is the mjpeg howto, found on: http://mjpeg.sourceforge.net/
I read that before I posted here. :-)
