David, I did just that in https://groups.io/g/marxmail/message/35202 which has
the following sentence: "I see your point, David. I meant that the Catholic
church is not special when it comes to child sexual abuse. Today in the
Portland area, we have a nearby public school system and local community in
turmoil over charges of child sexual abuse in the local high school. If
sartesian wants to smear me by smearing the Catholic Church, he should be more
specific. Here's a clue: indigenous abuse."

What are you referring to? Could you be real specific? Maybe put it in a list
like S.Artesian did?
I am fairly ignorant of Catholicism today but consider the institution as
potentially important to immigration-rights struggles in those parishes that
swing toward social justice. That's never predominated in the church, of
course, and more influential has been swings toward authoritarianism, e.g. the
Opus Dei sorts of influences at the top of US judicial and other institutions
today.
Regarding Catholic activists, I entered the left wing of US politics in 1970
when I moved into a communal living arrangement in a large house in Woodbury,
New Jersey. It was on the east side of the Delaware River; Media, Pennsylvania
is on the other side of the Delaware, if you remember that place from 1971.
Most in my house were at least of Catholic-heritage if not adherents. At least
one of the occupants was an un-indicted co-conspirator of a draft board office
break-in. Another part-time occupant of the shared home would soon become an
un-indicted co-conspirator in the 1971 Camden 18 prosecution, after I left for
Philadelphia to find the groups that were organizing the enormous antiwar
marches. My former crowd of left Catholics were more May Day, 1971 types, i.e.
ineffective in their strategy and tactics.
So, No, I don't know what any of those Catholic activists from a half-century
ago ago would need to "fess up" to that they wouldn't say up front and early in
an earnest conversation.
Mark
