You've moved the discussion from tactics and into strategy and program with your exposition on a "united front" around civil liberties, that somehow sees an advantage in separating class content, and class analysis from both the attack and defense. Civil liberties are not a thing in itself, nor is their defense a measure that makes the working class a class for itself. Civil liberties in origin and practice are intimately tied to the protection of private property from combined state +state religion regimes. The "perfect" society of civil liberties is one where every individual is a property holder, secure, atomized, fragmented, self-sufficient and safe in that atomized condition. , I would hope as Marxists our defense would not be of civil liberties, but, recognizing the limits, focus on defense of the actions of workers and poor.
Practical example? Maybe one where rather than defend the civil liberties of those arrested attempting to organize co-workers, we point out precisely that class content of arresting labor organizers and conduct a united front campaign to abolish "right-to-work" laws. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
