No one misunderstands or has said that a Harris win over Trump would represent "a victory for the masses" any more than Obama's election victories represented such. But neither did Obama's presidency produce the kind of demoralizing defeat that Dennis Brasky and others suggest (and welcome?) a Harris presidency would like bring. In fact, Obama's victory did the opposite as victories perceived by the masses are wont to do: it awakened hopes for deeper change, which subsequently found organized expression in the Sanders movement and the growth of the DSA under a younger left-wing leadership. The unexpected Sanders phenomenon attracted Marxists into the DP in much the same way the parallel Corbyn phenomenoon attracted Marxists into the Labour Party. Did they result in "a victory for the masses"? Of course not. No more than the Greens or the various Marxist tendencies represented on this list which exist outside of the left-centre parties have been able to victoriously mobilize the masses in advanced capitalist society .
