How about we finally reach agreement that it doesn’t matter very much whether we define Trump as a fascist or not so long as Americans mobilize against the interests and program he represents? The only practical significance I attach to the distinction is the greater potential there is for mass resistance in a bourgeois democratic society than in a fascist one where public channels for dissent have been completely shut down. An opinion piece by a professor of German history at Vanderbilt published just before the last presidential election between Trump and Biden illustrates the difference. He describes the forces which assembled to narrowly defeat Trump in 2020. It’s doubtful they’ll turn out in the same numbers for Biden, now the incumbent whose performance in office has been less than inspiring. Do you think RFK Jr. will draw much support away from him?
